SFTW conversation with @mattpercyprime From Tech Giant to AgTech Leader: How @JohnDeere is Pioneering the Future of Farming When someone with a 17-year career at @Microsoft and @Minecraft, like Matt Percy, moves into #agriculture, it raises eyebrows. Why leave gaming and tech for farming? In an SFTW conversation with me, Matt shared his journey and why John Deere , a 180-year-old company, feels like the perfect place to innovate and make an impact. John Deere’s transformation is anything but new. From the steel plow in 1837 to today’s autonomous machinery, innovation has been the company’s heartbeat. According to Matt, his role as VP of Solutions as a Service focuses on building durable, subscription-based software solutions like See & Spray™—a tool that applies herbicide with precision, saving farmers money and reducing environmental impact. Within the OEM space, different companies have taken different approaches, while Deere has boldly stated a strategy goal of making 10% of their revenue from as-a-service business by 2030. Adopting a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model in agriculture isn’t without challenges. However, Matt highlighted three guiding principles driving this shift: Affordability: Lower upfront costs, enabling access for farmers of all sizes. Accessibility: Retrofitting older equipment with cutting-edge technology to extend its value. Adaptability: Continuous product improvements over time, such as expanding See & Spray’s weed detection capabilities. A hallmark of Deere’s approach is its dealer network—a global network of trusted partners helping farmers maximize value. This system allows Deere to maintain a deep focus on farmer success while fostering collaboration across the ecosystem. What do you think about the conversation, and Deere's strategy?

@TFT_Antony Great example of a news report which does not tell you anything about what the start up plans to do or how.
