Niche tweet incoming but for those this is relevant to PLEASE PUT A DATE ON YOUR POLICY REPORTS OTHERWISE PEOPLE WILL FIND THEM ON THE INTERNET AND NOT KNOW WHETHER THEY WERE FROM LAST WEEK OR LAST CENTURY thank you
I have to say my plans to spend less time on twitter in 2023 have been ruined by continually checking in on how
#sophiefromromania
is getting on. Such a good dog ❤️
Shout out to my mum, who is very tired and really could do with *not* spending her last Saturday before Christmas vaccinating. But off she went this morning for the 7.30am start. Absolute legend

The ministerial foreword in the Govt's recent vision for women's health said "the system must be reformed along with its core values so that the voices of this 51% of the population are heard"
Today's decision questions any genuine commitment behind that statement.
We are deeply disappointed in the Government announcement today that telemedicine for early medical abortion care will not be made permanent in England. This is against all medical advice. Read our response with

Just want to take this moment to say every single person I’ve worked with in the last year working at Macmillan has been dedicated, passionate about improving the lives of people with cancer and excellent at their jobs. What a sad day. 💚
Tomorrow is my first
#CoffeeMorning
working for
@macmillancancer
(I started almost a year ago!) and despite everything going on right now, I’m most definitely going to
#RaiseAMug
tomorrow for people living with cancer. I feel immensely proud to be a part of this org💚💚💚
Today Rory would have turned 29. It breaks my heart to think of the things he would have achieved, the people he would have met and time we could have spent together. But I couldn’t ask for lovelier memories. Grief never gets easier, it just gets more normal 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
Why is this not a bigger news item? This is a huge hit to UK jobs and such a terrible loss to everyone who works with and is supported by any charity impacted
I know it’s only a small thing but I love going on HOLIDAY in the UK and if people could stop calling it a staycation unless they’re literally staying in their house that would be great.
.
@BBCr4today
did a piece on
#RoeVsWade
that was totally unbalanced. It focused on two women, one who regretted abortion and therefore supported the SC decision.
Studies show that the vast majority of women do not experience regret, but relief, following an abortion. Facts matter.
Couldn’t be happier to announce I didn’t get a ballot place in the London marathon, having been terrified all week that I’d have double-booked marathon training with being in the pub every possible moment once they open for the rest of eternity.
Today I've worked at
@macmillancancer
for exactly 11 months, with more of that time WFH than in the office. Want to take this opportunity to be soppy as hell and say what a supportive team and directorate I'm lucky to be a part of. You're all wonderful
@Mac_campaigning
Happy
#InternationalWomensDay
to all of my colleagues at

and across the sector working to improve women's health, and fight for their reproductive rights. I'm proud to work for RCOG every day, but it feels fitting today to shout about it.
Just a note to say it’s perfectly okay to feel anxious about steps that bring us back to ‘normal’ when most of us have forgotten what ‘normal’ is or feels like.
You can want lockdown to be over but also feel nervous about what happens next, the two aren’t binary.
Today would’ve been Rory’s 28th birthday - I will never stop missing his quiet kindness and unassuming nature. Raising a glass in his memory, forever my lovely big brother ❤️
Two years ago today I’d just picked up Patsy for the first time to take her home from her litter.
She’s been the best thing that has ever happened to me, and given me so much joy, and so much love. Animals truly are the best ☀️

we're calling on the government to ban both virginity testing & hymenoplasty in the upcoming health and care bill. A ban on just virginity testing without hymenoplasty will not protect women and girls.

@MidwivesRCM
Both are harmful practices that create and exacerbate social, cultural and political beliefs that a women’s value is based on whether or not she is a virgin before marriage.

Just realised I’ve officially been at Macmillan for a year. And what a year it has been. I’ve always wanted to work on health policy, but never imagined having to work on the impact of a global pandemic on our NHS.
One last cuddle with the big spaniel to explain to her that me and the small spaniel are moving back to London today.
She said she’s not angry, she’s just disappointed.
Finished my first week at
@RCObsGyn
and blown away by the breadth of issues that sit under women’s health and excited for all the opportunities over the next few months - especially our response to

women’s health strategy
I am now running the risk of looking like someone who regularly reads the comments section. But this just caught my eye and it made me ever so slightly emotional.

Brilliant to yesterday see how

can detect this unprecedented

Thank you to all those involved in this important work
Yesterday I reflected that I should buy hula hoops more often because they're delicious. Today, having eaten 5 out of 6 of the multi-pack in less than 24 hours, I am reminded why I should not buy them more often.
This time last year
@RCObsGyn
joined a coalition of organisations calling to ban virginity tests and hymen repair.
Today, the ban on these harmful practices officially became law.

SO SAD that today is my last day in the
@NCVO
office (tomorrow I get to say goodbye with intense strategy and even more intense bowling/karaoke at our away day)....
Yesterday marked two years since I started in the policy team at the
@RCObsGyn
- when I moved to the College I was nervous that what I had always seen as a 'dream job' working in women's healthcare policy couldn't possibly live up to my expectations, but it truly has...
I know he didn't write the headline but someone did and...why???
People experience loss early in life! People experience the care system...as children.
Pretty fundamental and life shaping experiences.
Where is the perspective?
God I can't stop thinking about those poor students, many away from home for the first time ever, stuck in halls trying to make new friends and with the worry they might not see their families until 2021. A bit more compassion from policy makers would be nice.
I'm off to
@RCObsGyn
from Monday and cannot wait to get stuck in working on all thing's women's health. Very much looking forward to being able to talk about vulvas in meetings without getting strange looks (or at least I hope this will be the case).
I thought I'd drag up this image once again. My personal favourite member of NHS staff (I'm probably biased...) going to work on a tractor to see patients in the SNOW. It's the dedication of its staff that has been the backbone of the health service we're all so proud of
#NHS70
Me and Pats went on a walk today with another 5 month old puppy and her owner that we met in the park and just sent the ‘if you fancy meeting up again’ text and genuinely got slight ‘did they get the same vibe as me/is a second date on the cards’ nerves and what is my life
Super excited to be here to celebrate the launch of the 20th year of

The Queen met 87-year-old who has volunteered at West Suffolk Hospital three days a week for 10 years. Ron found out about volunteering when he went to visit a friend in hospital. He says volunteering changed his life and helped him following the death of his wife.

In an incredibly unpredictable turn of events, I've volunteered myself to run the Bath Half marathon in March for
@Rethink_
- given that this time last year I couldn't even run half a mile without needing a sit down, please pity me and throw me some cash:
My coil fitting was booked at the end of November for the end of January, and have heard many similar stories. Women shouldn’t have to wait to access basic contraception, particularly given it is one of the most cost-effective and essential public health interventions we have.
"I do absolutely feel that women's health is neglected. We know that gynaecological waiting lists are not being picked up and moved as quickly as other specialties. Contraception is a human right."

in January there was years worth of work still to do - but you've absolutely smashed it

This morning has been a gentle reminder of why I don't buy breakfast biscuits. I've eaten two packs already and, let's be honest here, they're just biscuits with branding that makes them acceptable to eat before 9am.
Thank you
@imbethmccoll
for so perfectly encapsulating how tough SAD can be. Also a great reminder to everyone to try their hardest to get out and look at sunny blue skies whenever we're lucky enough to have them.
On Boxing Day we held the 10th annual memorial rugby match in memory of Rory.

I'd say the job of the health secretary is mainly ensuring our NHS, public health and care systems are fit for purpose, addressing the huge backlog in diagnosis and treatment, and supporting the NHS and care workers who have given so much to the country over the last year....
Today
@RCObsGyn
have published a new position statement on how we can work towards improving women's pelvic floor health throughout their lives - focusing on the important role education, information provision and early access to care & support are
"To ensure that pregnancy loss can be managed as a healthcare issue with care and compassion, not as a potential crime, the RCOG and FSRH are calling on the UK Government to decriminalise abortion across the UK"
We're so pleased to see
@GOVUK
has tabled an amendment to the Health and Care Bill to ban hymenoplasty alongside virginity testing, these two harmful practices are inextricably linked and it's essential that they are together as part of the same change in law.(1/2)
Still reeling that there was no real debate on the NHS last night. Nor was there any debate about any public services. Education? Policing? Nope just an extended discussion on the price of earrings.
The NHS has been the most consistent top priority for the public since 1987.
6 and a half million on waiting lists.
MPs today said worst NHS workforce crisis ever.
Thousands forced to go private in a cost of living crisis.
