Can we explore scrapping the idea that all physicians must do research? Interpret & apply, absolutely. Produce it, maybe not so much. DO/PhD & MD/PhD programs exist for a reason.
Physicians make great policy advocates, educators, business leaders, admin, innovators, etc. too!

🆘 Can’t seem to get over the hump between gen surgery & obgyn. I get the same excitement from being in the OR, working scopes/tools & anatomy as I get from delivering babies, doing gyn surgeries & procedures. 🫣 What to do?

Pick a QBank (Amboss, UWorld, Boards & Beyond). Begin practice M1 topic Qs now. Slowly incorporate M2 topic Qs. 6 months before planned STEP1, take NBME to check progress/areas to pull up. Make 6 month plan & stick to it. Consistency helped me be successful on STEP1.

is for me! Having to stay current on such a broad base is intimidating to me personally. My impression may change during clinical rotations so I’ll keep an open mind, but for now I think specialty med is my future.

Population focus is definitely urban and/or underserved, so within the outskirts at least of a metropolitan area would be ideal. But I’d also be delighted with mid sized cities as well. I don’t feel drawn to true rural settings right now, but life could change.

Also, great idea to download USPSTF app & keep handy for clerkships! It saved me a ton on FM, Peds, & IM. It’s also useful when doing practice Qs and you need to ID what tests/diseases to screen for.
