Last week, we participated in the three-day EmpowHer Annual Meeting in Accra, Ghana, bringing together various Member Associations (MAs) of @ippf from across Africa and beyond. The participating countries included Guinea Bissau, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Pakistan, Togo, Mauritania, Benin, Burkina Faso, Sudan, Ecuador, and Colombia, alongside Rutgers Netherlands. The meeting aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of the EmpowHer initiative and its alignment with @ippf’s strategic framework. Discussions centered on the theory of change and logic model for EmpowHer, providing a structured approach to achieving its objectives. Additionally, the meeting facilitated reflections on the first year of implementation while reviewing the draft work plan and budget for the second year. A significant component of the meeting was the concurrent sessions on SRH advocacy, age appropriate sexuality education and finance training, ensuring a holistic approach to strengthening programmatic and financial sustainability. #RHNKImpact #RHNK4SRHR

We participated in a workshop this week for the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health Products and Technology Innovation Steering (RAPTIS) Committee meeting and the validation of the Maternal and Newborn Health quantification report. The workshop began with the onboarding of new members to the RAPTIS Committee and a thorough review of the Terms of Reference in the context of the expanded Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health division. This was followed by sessions on forecasting, supply planning, and technical specifications, with an emphasis on refining humanitarian supply chains and engaging in strategic discussions to enhance the effectiveness of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health initiatives. The latter part of the workshop focused on the quantification and validation of forecasted Maternal and Newborn Health products. Throughout the session, we worked in groups to align the narrative and forecasting reports, ensuring the data was accurate and actionable. We also reviewed and updated the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health product selection introduction checklist, refining the selection criteria to ensure that only the most relevant and effective products were considered. A key activity involved using the updated checklist to score a new family planning product, Pregna (PPIUD), which is inserted immediately after delivery. As we moved towards the conclusion of the workshop, we focused on finalizing the national Maternal and Newborn Health quantification report. Once completed, this report will be submitted to @MOH_Kenya for potential adoption, marking a significant step in improving Maternal and Newborn Health care in the country. #RHNKImpact #RHNK4SRHR

Over the last two days, we brought some of the health care providers from across the country to participate in the Provider Share Workshop, an immersive space designed to engage them in deep reflections and discussions on stigma related to reproductive healthcare service provision. The workshop facilitated open dialogue on provider experiences and explored strategies for managing stigma, offering a safe environment for them to share insights, challenge biases and navigate the complexities of patient-centered care. A key highlight of the workshop was the Photo Voice Activity, where healthcare providers presented photos and narratives depicting community perceptions of reproductive health services. This exercise deepened collective understanding and encouraged critical reflection. Another significant session, *Providers as Stigmatizers*, required participants to identify the types of clients they found most challenging, fostering introspection on personal biases and discussions on strategies for addressing them. They also shared *Memorable Cases & Difficult Complications*, recounting patient experiences that highlighted challenges and lessons learned in service provision. The *Paper Prayers Activity* invited small groups to envision a world free from stigma, crafting written reflections that captured their collective hopes for equitable and compassionate care. The workshop concluded with a *Closing Ritual*, where participants reflected on their experiences and discussed how their learnings would influence their work moving forward. As part of a broader effort to document the struggles and resilience of these healthcare providers, personal narratives were collected for inclusion in a casebook and documentary. These stories aim to amplify the voices of providers often overlooked in discussions on reproductive health. Key takeaways from the workshop included the importance of self-reflection and peer learning in addressing both personal and systemic biases. Participants acknowledged the critical role of stigma-free care and the necessity of advocacy in ensuring safe and dignified reproductive health services. The interactive and storytelling-based approach of the sessions proved particularly impactful, shifting perspectives and strengthening provider confidence. Through @GAC_Corporate funded work, @rhnkorg and @ippf is working to ensure we have an enabling environment for access to SRHR services. #RHNKImpact #RHNK4SRHR

This week, we participated in a workshop organized by @MoH_DRMH,focusing on developing communication and advocacy materials for the upcoming Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) initiative. The #EWENE initiative, a national advocacy forum led by the @MoH_DRMH in collaboration with all 47 counties and various stakeholders, is a crucial national call to action. Its aim is to accelerate the implementation of vital interventions designed to eliminate preventable maternal and newborn deaths. During the workshop, our efforts were concentrated on two critical areas that directly support our mission: The first focus was the development of a communication strategy, where we worked on crafting precise and impactful messages. These messages are intended to emphasize the urgency and importance of maternal and newborn health, with a focus on tailoring them to resonate with a variety of audiences, thereby ensuring widespread support and increasing public awareness. The second key area was budget optimization. Acknowledging the importance of fiscal prudence, we reviewed and refined the financial allocations for the #EWENE event. This exercise aimed to maximize the impact of each expenditure, ensuring that resources would be used effectively to enhance the overall success of the initiative. The insights gathered and the materials developed during this workshop are instrumental in advancing our ongoing efforts to advocate for and promote maternal and newborn health, reinforcing our commitment to the cause. #RHNKImpact #RHNK4SRHR

Earlier this week, we participated in a workshop convened by @HakiKNCHR and @NANHRI40 to explore strategies for addressing obstetric violence against pregnant women in Kenya. The session brought together key stakeholders among them @hon_wamuchomba and GAMMA Africa, to discuss collaborative approaches to tackling this critical issue. Obstetric violence, which encompasses the dehumanizing treatment, mistreatment, abuse, or neglect of women during pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period, remains a lesser-recognized yet deeply harmful form of gender-based violence. The workshop provided a platform for collective engagement in identifying actionable solutions to raise awareness and ensure equitable access to respectful and dignified maternal healthcare. At RHNK, we remain committed to addressing Obstetric violence by upholding the dignity and rights of every mother in Kenya. For more information and reports on obstetric violence, contact our @NenaNaBinti Call Center: 📞 Call: 0800 211 227 | 0111 052 830 📩 Text: 0775 533 117 #RHNKImpact #RHNK4SRHR

We held our age appropriate sexuality education review meeting yesterday in Kakamega County. The session brought together teachers, youth advocates, representatives from the @TSC_KE and a representative from @MOH_Kenya. Schools from across the region were well-represented, creating a diverse platform to reflect on the progress and impact of age appropriate sexuality education initiatives over the past year. The objectives of the meeting were to evaluate what worked well in 2024, assess the reception of various age appropriate sexuality education topics, and identify which subjects were most covered and generated the most questions from learners. We also sought to explore additional topics that could enhance age appropriate sexuality education work, identify resources or materials that might complement the program, and discuss areas of improvement. Ultimately, the session aimed to establish clear action points to guide the way forward. Several key highlights emerged from the discussions. It was noted that there had been a significant reduction in pregnancy cases among learners, an encouraging indicator of the program’s impact. Learners were reported to be more open and willing to share their concerns, reflecting a growing comfort with the topics addressed. Following the training, parents, teachers, and learners were sensitized to the importance of sexual and reproductive health, fostering a more supportive environment for age appropriate sexuality education. The session concluded with a commitment to refine age appropriate sexuality education implementation by integrating feedback, enhancing resources, and strengthening partnerships with stakeholders. A detailed report capturing the discussions and outcomes of the review meeting will be shared soon to provide further guidance on the next steps. #RHNKImpact #RHNK4SRHR
