Been quiet recently (flu), BUT NOW SUPER-EXCITED (there's a surprise). Can't wait for this trip. 🥰 Come with me and Him, for 5 days, walking the ground and following the Allies up into Bremen and beyond. April 1945 ... ambushes ... liberating concentration camps ... clashes with rag-tag stragglers ... changing Allied tactics ... Jocks ... it's got everything. ARE YOU WITH US!! @GuildofBG @bhltours @WW2TV @WeHaveWaysPod
🚨 GREAT NEWS FOR PEOPLE THAT WANT TO FOLLOW OTHER PEOPLE POINTING AT HISTORICAL THINGS 🚨 The dates for Walking With the Jocks North are out! 9th - 13th October 2025 Join @rentaquill @bhltours and me for the second instalment of our tour, following in the footsteps of Peter White, his jocks and the 52nd Lowland Division. We’ll tackle the key events of that last 6 weeks of the war: Ibbenburen, the direct hit, the ambush, Stalax 11B, Uphusen, Bremen as well as some detours to Submarine Pens, Sandbostel camp and much, much more. Join us, won’t you?

@james_2904 "light repast between mealtimes," 1610s (as lunchen; also in early spelling lunching, lunchin; spelling luncheon is by 1650s); earlier "thick piece, hunk (of bread, cheese, etc.)," 1570s (luncheon, lunchion), which is of uncertain origin.

@bazzdgrogan @AndyAitcheson His post-war interviews are enlightening -- "I know. And I did deserve to be sacked, of course I did. But there was no other course of action open to me." (Paraphrasing)

@Swissss It’s expired - but I have an idea - is that the telecoms bunker down in Ringstead? I know people who’ve stayed there. Top job. 😊

@KyleGHistory 100% agree. Dowding, Wheatley, Crowley. Doesn't matter whether or not it's 'real', it's the Scientology argument - significant intellects who manage to articulate a completely different view of the world are interesting.

@kejamieson_ @grantshapps I feel the same about Ordnance Survey. You wouldn’t say “the Waitrose”, but people refer to OS constantly as the Ordnance Survey.

Lots of criticism about media coverage today, but @BBCRadio3 knocked it out of the park this morning. In-depth research on the 15 orchestras that played at Auschwitz; no shirking; really strong program from @PetrocTrelawny and the team. Worth re-listening.
