I was a Director

for 4 years until earlier this month. I wasn’t going to speak publicly on California Forever, but need to say the CA YIMBY endorsement of the project was advised against by staff, and is supported by a minority.
I respect those who support California Forever but it doesn't represent the goals I've worked for: accelerating the building of smaller, more naturally affordable homes near existing jobs, transit, and community resources.
Single-stair apartments, like this one in Seattle, allow for 20 housing units on a lot that used to contain one single-family home. We need to legalize apartments on small lots so that we can build more missing middle housing with beautiful floor plans! (B9 architects)
Lawyer for CA Coastal Commission for 20 years: “the Legislature should amend the Coastal Act to allow multifamily housing in all urban residential and commercial neighborhoods.” Vote today on density bonus in the coastal zone!

Yes, we desperately need more housing, and that's why I respect those who support the project and their reasons, even if it's not how or where I'd spend $800M (not my money). I posted on this because the article mischaracterized staff support.
YES to more homes near transit and jobs means we reduce the leading cause of climate pollution in CA: endless, soul-wrenching car commutes.
@cayimby
makes it clear––legalizing housing addresses the climate crisis and makes CA affordable for all!
VIDEO: In order to solve the climate crisis, we need to solve the housing crisis.

My former colleagues and I are in this work to improve the lives of Californians most impacted by the housing shortage and affordability crisis. Years of advocacy as receipts. I support them and their work.

Where we build our desperately needed housing determines whether we meet our climate goals as a state. Will our cities and towns grow out, yes. New cities? Where matters. I’m focused on welcoming more neighbors to our existing communities.

Building more homes in CA means cheaper rent, inclusive neighborhoods, and less traffic. Check out the latest video from

No, not mutually exclusive. I’m excited to spend my time advocating to change our housing policy to make building homes in our existing communities faster, easier, and more financially competitive.
In Los Angeles, a tiny studio apartment pays the same amount of property tax as a 17,000 square-foot parking lot.
