The young man in the photo rode his first winner three weeks ago. I took the photo below after his second success at Craon last week. It was to be his last. RIP Benjamin Messina. Thinking of all your friends, family and colleagues.

Stage a World Championships then, put the best 10 teams from the NBA in, the best two teams in France, Japan, Argentina, Australia, the UK, China etc and then crown the winners the World Champions. It's pretty easy to do without meaningless games where teams send half a side.
Cheltenham racecourse needs to ask itself what the Festival is about. Is it:
a) The pinnacle of jumps racing, the best meeting around and about the best taking on the best?
or
b) Getting a lot of folk through the turnstiles to get drunk and gamble.
Great video, General Lee comes in, gives it beans and they're all right excited while you know the next part of the video is half of them running into a door. What a show.
Agree with this. Hewick needs to decide if he's a top racehorse or is just after a solid career. He can't keep getting caught going to the pub if he's going to challenge for top honours next season.
I'd go racing more in the UK if it didn't feel like I was being asked to pay £25 to then pay double rates for drinks and food. The racing should be the main product but the price of everything else and the lack of competitive action detracts massively from the sport.
Stewards Enquiry update on the "Dash". 🗞
"In actual terms of where those horses were when they've left the gates in relation to the others, we believe from that basis that they've not been materially affected." 🗣 Shaun Parker.

"80% of people under 40 wouldn't attend a horse race meeting on moral grounds"
If Animal Rising's rise to prominence in the last week has taught us anything it's that the organisation has a phobia of accurate statistics.
“Hill Sixteen was the fiftieth horse to die in British horse racing this year, to shift the responsibility onto a protest is wrong.”
Animal Rising spokesperson Claudia Penna Rojas says 80% of people under 40 wouldn’t attend a horse race on moral grounds.

Imagine explaining to non-British/Irish folk how the Pertemps Final works. Well there's a number of qualifiers, a lot of trainers like to win them but the key is to find one that ran in Ireland and finished fifth or sixth.
I appreciate that there's this constant need to hype clashes that were standard 15-20 years ago but Kauto vs. Denman (any of them tbh), Moscow Flyer vs. Well Chief vs. Azertyuiop etc. were all better than two just out of novice company having a bash at each other round Ascot.
Has there ever been a better horse race than yesterday’s Clarence House?

for Shishkin vs Energumene!

For anyone thinking of having a runner in France a sit down meal at Corlay was about £25 for 3 courses including wine. Can also recommend a place that does a 5 course meal and unlimited red wine or cider for 30 Euros.
Seems strange that Shishkin seemingly wasn't dope tested after his shocker in the Champion Chase. One of the biggest races of the year, favourite and seemingly beaten after a couple of fences.
Can definitely see Briony changing the weighing room culture but losing a good career in the process. But honestly if she does that she'll have accomplished so much more than any number of winners will amount to.
Another 684 deaths in the last 24 hours. Not sure why people expect the UK to be different to countries with a superior healthcare system. Our NHS staff do an amazing job but they've been neglected for years, hope one day soon we're on top of this and nevr make the same mkes agn.
When you hear it costs £2,500 to take a horse from Newmarket to Ayr you start to see why so many trainers don't travel to the ends of the country for these small field races.
Million pound Ces now too - any chance of a racecourse/course ownership group saying "look a better idea is making sure all 0-90's are a minimum 17k, all 0-85's 15k, 0-80 12k, 0-70 9k & all below that a minimum of 6.5k"
RIP to my great aunt Ivy. Celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday and passed away Sunday. Now reunited with her husband, one of her sisters and her brothers. Such a lovely lady :-)
When I see beautifully looked after horses every day and then see the state of some in fields around the UK, Ireland and Europe it really irks seeing Animal Rising and co having a go at true horsemen over those who put horses out to grass and ignore them.
Watching horses jump 2 or 3 fences when 30L last and going nowhere will do more harm for racing than any issue rearing to using the whip over X or Y height or in Z position.
Those without Racing TV who are missing the Irish action just put the replay of the 13:10 Plumpton on and you can still see two JP horses trail around out the back in a novice chase.
Mad this. Three lads in his corner, one giving him technical advice, one shouting "use the jab, we're fighting men" and the other going "I said a hip-hop, the hippie, the hippie to the hip, hip-hop and you don't stop the rockin'"

A few years ago I did some outreach work for an awesome homeless charity. I often think back to those days and a) how easy it is to end up on the streets and b) how much bad luck some people have. Most on here (including myself) are so lucky. It's important we realise that.
It's a tricky one but I'd imagine you have more than one horsebox and/or know of a horse transport company.
Bar that I'd suggest M40, M6, M62, M57 and then down Longmoor Lane, it should be signposted from there.

The Real Whacker only cost 21k and now he's a Cheltenham winner. Great to see and the viewers at home will know they might have a Cheltenham winner when they get involved in ownership.

National Insurance contributions (mostly) pay for the National Health Service that is "free at the point of access". Private healthcare exists too for those who want to pay and use it etc.
Can somebody give the lad a heads up that "rewilding" is not turning thoroughbred horses out on the North Yorkshire Moor's, nor is it letting all the labradors loose in the Brecon Beacons or all the Holstein cattle wander around Hyde Park.
'Do you ultimately want to stop us not just having domesticated horses, but cats and dogs as well?'
'Yeah.'

Touch wood will be racing in 2 weeks. It'll be a fiver entry and 30 Euros for a sit down meal with wine. Chester are charging £60 admission and £396 for the "Festival Village Restaurant" and courses/racing wonder why the sport isn't more popular and there's no prize money.
Reports in Germany saying that Bauyrzhan Murzabayev will ride as number one jockey to Andre Fabre for 2023. Murzabayev reportedly turned down a similar role with the Graffard stable last season. Brilliant that we'll likely be seeing him in all/most of the top races in 2023.
Balloting for Newcastle should be done on the basis of what percentage of a trainers total runners have come at the track. Give the regulars first option into races.

Women just want to live a life free of fear, hate & in safety. Self ID increases fear & reduces safety while those in favour often promote hate.
Advice for all those panicking that they might miss out on Cheltenham this year. The track seems so keen to exploit it's customers, give 2021 a miss and book a racing trip elsewhere - there's plenty of options and all will be just as special.
The Whip Debate - it's not a debate, it's a crusade from the RP and it's one that's not popular with anyone in racing and has limited appeal (say 2-3% of the population care) to the general public.
If anyone thinks that racing will sort out the bullying issue in any other way than shoving it under the carpet and/or ostracising those who complain then let me know.
Every meeting that charges more than £30 per head should have one of the following: A £50k+ to the winner race or average prize money of more than £15,000 to the winner. Racecourses should provide a premium product if charging a premium price.
I went to two race meetings yesterday - Le Lion-d'Angers was free entry, decent crowd for a 10:20am start. Angers was 6 Euros entry with a 2 Euro free bet, competitive card, G1 winner running and nice, newish bar/betting area. To do the same in the UK it'd cost circa £50 and I...
