Looking forward to the S5 class later today! Already have the "toy" version complete so spending this week focused on two objectives. 1. updating/improving 3d slicer profile & raising printer constancy 2. design and parts list for V2 which should be a 10x larger print volume

@cwamidon Def agree on the fact that US shipyards are behind on developing/ implementing the newest tech trends. For DOD shipyards they have some head winds to overcome with these in the form of unions and US Navy acceptance.

@sailbikewrite Great write up! couple items that i would add 1. OSHA regulations in the USA are a cost driver that is often ignored (not saying that they are a bad thing) 2. I believe a true cost metric that highlights what the price per overall TEU capacity comparing USA vs China built

@JohnUBalis @13thhourdefense Thats a great question, it really will end up being a factor of layer height used similar to a plastic printer. Could also do post processing machining to cut back to get tight tolerances

@Fennex628 biggest issue to come through to get it to start was coming up with away to turn the welder on and off. ended up stealing the power from the extruder fan and hooking to an automotive relay. Than it was just a simple gcode to turn it on and off.

@benkohlmann Largest advantage of 3d printing is probably vast reduction in part count shown here by spacex. Design/ production feedback loop being shortened with 3d printing is a second big one.
