They changed it because they wanted each Potion to heal by double. From Gen 7-onwards, they heal by 30, 60, and 120. See? It’s all more even.
In the older games, they healed by 20, 50, and 200. It kinda made Potions and Super Potions lose relevancy fast, and Max Potions useless.
