daily reminder that consumer protection in finance is enforced by the following agencies: - FTC: general consumer protection - OCC: federal bank supervision - FDIC: bank deposits, fair lending - NCUA: credit union oversight - SEC: securities laws, financial markets - HUD: mortgage lending - FCC: unfair internet practices - DOJ: protection against monopolist practices the CFBP is not the only entity charged with consumer protection. we did just fine without it before 2011. obviously the CFPB would not have avoided or in any way prevented the GFC. it's duplicative at best.
