Registered Nursing Degree Apprentice (2nd Year)
@CNTWNHS
@sunderlanduni
NHS England Student Council (North East/Yorks). Living with a rare disease (OI Type 1)
When I was 4, the Local Authority said I should go to Special School. June 2013 ➡️ degree in Sport. July 2022 ➡️ worked in the NHS for over 7 years + offered a Nursing Degree Apprenticeship 💫 A rare disease doesn’t have to define who you are or what you can achieve

Feeling angry/upset. Just been into Sainsburys South Gosforth before work. An elderly man laughed and made a sarcastic comment because I was putting my mask on before going in 😢🤷🏻♀️ It’s my choice, I’m protecting people like him and I work on Intensive Care

just yet because of the memories. Living alone during the first lockdown and working on ITU helping patients with their rehab. I think I probably cried most days. One of my memories is a local Secondary School making visors for us.
I’ve collected my new ID badge, uniform + laptop for my Nursing Degree Apprenticeship! Excited for induction next week, placements and then Uni in Jan. “Never doubt what you can do, because you can do anything you set your mind to” 💫👊🏻

I’ve received a message saying that I talk too much about my condition, how I feel and I should think about deleting my posts 🤷🏻♀️ I feel even more determined, I’m proud of who I am and that I have brittle bone disease. 7 mile run this afternoon! ✅ 🏃🏻♀️💪🏻👊🏻

Tempted to write to my Primary School (where I wasn’t allowed to join in P.E.) and tell them I was a London 2012 Olympic Torchbearer, I’ve ran 4 Marathons, 54 miles in May so far (313 this year) and tonight I led 16 ladies on a run and they all loved it! ☺️🏃🏻♀️

Always good to remind yourself of how far you’ve come. Local Authority thought I should be in a Special School + I was left out of P.E. lessons. 26 years later (and 50+ fractures along the way) I work in the NHS, on Intensive Care, and I love running 🙌🏻🏃🏻♀️

When I was 4, the Local Authority wanted me to go to Special School. My parents fought for me to go to Mainstream. By the end of Year 6, I was Captain of the School Netball Team. Nice reminder to always keep trying 💪🏻 Thanks

I’ve received some amazing news!! 🥳🥂🙌🏻 I’ve been successful/offered a place on a 5 year Nursing Degree Apprenticeship to start in October, to specialise in either Learning Disability or Mental Health Nursing. Thank you to everyone for your support!

So happy! 😁(hasn’t quite sunk in!) Received provisional results for Uni assignments. 10 yrs since I’ve done any academic writing but somehow achieved 2:1 on my essay and 100% on my presentation! (which I was nervous about!) 81% overall 🎉

When I first started Primary School, I wasn’t allowed to join in with P.E. 27 years and 50 plus fractures later, I’m excited for my 7th Great North Run! 🙌🏻🏃🏻♀️ Good luck to everyone running and thank you for your amazing support!

I’m a Physiotherapy Associate Practitioner on ICU. I’m fully vaccinated as it is vital in protecting patients who I help with in their Rehabilitation from Critical Illness. I *know* it is the single most important thing I can do to avoid being admitted to ICU or dying from COVID
2 years ago today I received a hurtful message from a relative. Apparently I talk about my condition too much, how I feel/mental health, and that I should delete my posts. I’m very proud of who I am and continue to shout about my rare disease and mental health! 🙌🏻💪🏻

Very emotional day but also an incredible once in a lifetime experience. It was amazing to work as Steward today along the Royal Funeral procession and talking to people from all over the World. Arrived into London at 4am this morning and just on my way back up to Newcastle!

I bought my flat when I was 24 and I’m 33 this year. It has a tiny outdoor space but it is a sun trap and I’m so grateful. I’ve worked really hard to get where I am, and on days like today I really appreciate finishing work and enjoying sitting outside👌🏻☀️
