Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Islington North 🌹Promoted by Alexander Gardiner on behalf of Praful Nargund, both at 65 Barnsbury Street, London, N1 1EJ
It’s an honour to have been chosen as Labour’s candidate for Islington North and I look forward to the campaign ahead. I promise to be a truly local MP, that represents all families and businesses that call this special place their home.
Only Labour can change the country and
So glad to be joined by local member and Labour legend Neil Kinnock in Highbury today.
26 days until Islington North goes to the polls.
We've spoken to thousands of voters and will speak to thousands more. Islington North needs to be at the heart of any Labour government.
Proud to launch my campaign as the Labour candidate for Islington North.
Putting this community at the heart of a Labour Government is how we can really change lives for the better in Islington North.
Happy Father’s Day to my wonderful Dad.
He came to Britain in the early eighties to work in the NHS, ultimately working at Bart’s and Homerton as a urologist and cancer surgeon. He’s overcome incredible obstacles, is loving and caring, and I’m very proud of him.
Thank you Dad,
It is an honour to submit my nomination papers today as the Labour candidate for Islington North. 🌹
The past two days have been full of positive conversations as we speak to voters across the constituency who are ready for a Labour government.
14 years of Tory failure.
13 days to go to kick them out.
It's our chance for change.
Islington North must be at the heart of the next Labour government.
Islington North is in their Labour era 🌹

Thank you to our local activists for a great morning talking to voters about Labour's vision for Government.
Thank you to all the activists — we have knocked on thousands of doors since the beginning of the campaign to bring our message of change.
Only a Labour MP can bring the change our country needs.
Another Arsenal (ward) success! 🌹
Hundreds of conversations with voters about Labour's plans to tackle the housing crisis, cut NHS waiting times and make energy greener and cheaper.
Another great canvass — this time in Arsenal!
We are talking with hundreds of people across Islington North who are ready for a Labour government and ready to be a part of change 🌹
Thank you to all the great teams out on the doorstep across Islington North today!
We’re campaigning to make sure this community is part of the change a Labour Government will bring 🌹
Thank you to the great group of volunteers working hard to bring Labour's message of change across Islington North.
The past 14 years of Tory rule has done untold harm to our community. School cuts, long NHS waiting times and spiralling housing costs.
As your Labour MP, I'll
Rain or shine, Labour volunteers are knocking on doors and having the conversations about the community and the country Islington North wants.
It's clear. Only a Labour MP can put our community at the heart of any future Labour government and bring the change we need.
It was great to sit down with the
@islingtongztte

I am proud of the huge campaign we have mobilised in a snap election. Every day Labour members are knocking on doors, making the
As postal ballots drop, we have been out speaking to voters about the issues important to them.
NHS waiting times, Tory cuts to schools, and housing costs come up again and again.
It's time for change.
It's time for a Labour government.

The original tweet implied that you felt this is a new phenomenon and is because of Brexit. I’ve been through this, it’s not new and it’s been happening for decades. I agree with you that it’s awful, and makes you feel very unwelcome. Maybe, Brexit is the outcome, not the cause.
Great to see this new addition next to Camden Passage.
Making the area safer for pedestrians, creating a greener environment and more places to lock your bike up too.

As a proud Arsenal fan, it was great to meet
@timpayton
from the Arsenal Supporters Trust yesterday to discuss the importance of Arsenal as our community's club and Labour's plans for a football regulator.
It was great to chat with

yesterday about how a Labour MP can work with a Labour Government to really change things for the better in Islington North
Ignore the culture war from NatCon and ministers, migrants are not to blame. It’s a failure to invest in skills holding workers and businesses back.

Today starts
#NAW2023

Young people are losing out on opportunities, & the economy isn't getting needed skills.
Which is why I'm launching my

Today I’m with

His report today is a challenge to Labour now on the change and the ambition we need.

Why do we need the absurd defence? Of course there’s a reason behind it, the point is that you didn’t have anyone in the room to tell you the list was exclusionary. And the journalists who published the article didn’t think to question you on it. It’s called structural racism!
At every canvassing session, residents bring up the NHS and waiting lists as a top concern.
Labour has a plan to get the NHS back on its feet, and I’ll make the Whittington part of this.
Out canvassing in Barnsbury this morning, listening to residents. Lots of ideas for how we improve the local environment.
First session for my baby daughter too! 😃🌹
On a bit of a twitter break...but just thought I’d share.
Very honoured to be elected Chair of Islington South and Finsbury CLP last night. We have a fantastic and welcoming atmosphere and I hope to continue it!
With the cost of living soaring, Barnsbury Labour have been organising a monthly collection for our local food bank on Copenhagen St. This month we donated baby essentials.

Labour had a plan - the Building Schools for the Future programme - to get schools repaired and rebuilt.
The Tories scrapped it in 2010. Today we once again see the damaging consequences of such poor decision-making.
Some schools in England are facing major problems thanks to a type of concrete known as RAAC
What is it, and why has it suddenly become such a big issue? ⬇️
Very proud of my mum winning this Inspire award, she’s my inspiration! 🎉🎉🎉
She taught me to fight for what you believe in, the importance of public service, how to campaign, and how to beat injustice.

A transformation in skills and training are critical to kickstarting growth.
My Labour government will work in partnership with businesses to grow our economy.
Meeting with CEOs and leaders this morning,
@bphillipsonMP
and I discussed how Labour will address the skills shortage and work with businesses to drive growth across the UK.
From London to the Red Wall, we have a deepening skills gaps and workforce shortages.
It’s preventing people accessing opportunity and holding back our economy too.
And it’s going to have a huge impact at the next election.
My article in

✍️ A fractured British workforce is at its worst in Red Wall seats, an existential crisis for the Tories and an opportunity for Labour

Out on the doorstep this morning on the Barnsbury Estate, speaking to residents about council services, cost of living, delivering a liveable neighbourhood, the planned estate transformation and more!
We’re building a fairer, greener, safer borough🌹
@IslingtonLabour
Labour has a plan to deliver economic growth and transform lives across the country. There are big challenges ahead, and prosperity and equality must go hand in hand. My story in the link 👇
Gove has been a central figure over the last 12 years, in a government which has resulted in economic stagnation, repeated chaos, a hollowed public realm, soaring inequality and now a cost of living crisis.
Forgive me for not eulogising his political retirement.
In every job, Michael Gove read up, listened to all sides, devised a plan with key priorities, so officials and press were clear what he was up to, and communicated clearly to voters via the media. Best departmental minister of the last decade? Not even close...
My maiden speech last night, calling for more investment by Thames Water.
Residents affected by leaks live in a state of anxiety, terrified of when the next flood will occur.
They’ve had thirty years to modernise the network. We need public ownership to get it back on track.
If Britain value apprentices, it's time to pay them more.
With
@JLPartnersPolls
, we looked at public attitudes towards the apprenticeship minimum wage.
The public consider it too low and that it discourages learning. My article today in

It is amazing how Europe has progressed since the end of WW2. The EU is a big friendly alliance, and we should be helping to shape it in a spirit of solidarity, to build a better society for generations to come! Wise words from Mr Chardin in the clip!
@Vets4EU
D-Day veteran Eric Chardin: “Brexit worries me. It would be an awful shame if what we’ve gone to so much trouble to do, to collect the European big nations together, to break it all up now would be a crying shame.”
The government’s data shows the massive decline in apprenticeship starts in England over the last decade.
I’ve mapped that data to every constituency in England - showing how we’re failing in most places. Link below 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽
Great canvassing session today around the half moon estate with Barnsbury Labour, picking up case work and sharing helpful info on the cost of living.

Yearly nursery costs have risen by some £2000 in the last 12 years.
The failure to provide affordable, high quality childcare sits with your conservative government.
It’s a failure to ensure fairness, and also to provide a foundation for prosperity.
Thames Water is a company in chaos, on the verge of collapse.
I recently submitted a data request that shows the escalating leaks and longer repair times in Islington.
We deserve better - water should be run for public good, privatisation has failed.
@LeftieStats
When this gets from an idea to being published and promoted, without anyone saying, one second, there are no women of colour in this list, you get a sense of how insidious structural racism is.
That’s a wrap on JLM One Day Conference 2023!

We have to bold to take the action that will tackle air pollution locally.
A recent study using Islington data has shown our people friendly streets schemes can reduce air pollution and traffic.
Nationally, we need a new Clean Air Act fit for the 21st century.
Islington has a 5% higher than average air pollution for London and 25% higher than England. An estimated 80 people will die due to air pollution in the borough this year.

Over 13 years, the last Labour gov had no NHS strikes.
Instead, they delivered record investment, the shortest waiting lists, 2 days for a GP appt, more doctors & nurses, the highest satisfaction in the NHS and much more.
Labour in power delivers.
It was great to welcome

Colleges are key to boosting skills, but have been let down by the Tories.
@UKLabour
will work with colleges to break down barriers to opportunity across our country.
🧵Thames Water has consistently failed to make needed investments and look after residents. Some in our community live in a state of anxiety, afraid of the next leak. It just isn't good enough, we have a broken system.
I gave my maiden speech calling TW out, watch below👇.../1

@Telegraph
You had no mandate from the people to place dice with the economy.
You pushed through an ideological experiment, ignoring safeguards and warnings.
The markets found you out.
You might have been the shortest ever PM, but the damage you have caused is long lasting.
Clarion call to action in the Guardian by
@GeetaNargund
(my mum), on the deteriorating state of maternity care and disproportionate mortality rates for BAME women.
More investment, innovation, and engagement needed to address health inequalities.
At our launch event this morning, I spoke about how 12 years of economic stagnation is linked to a failure to invest in skills and training. A fairer country delivers a more prosperous one too./2

Discussed the future of work, apprenticeships, digital and innovation.
So much opportunity to address inequality by skilling up young people.
Cllr surgery this morning, followed by canvassing session.
Housing issues front and centre. We need a Labour government to help us build even more homes in Islington, and end the housing crisis in London.
@IslingtonLabour
Lots of Barnsbury Estate residents signing our petition to

His failure has caused a pause in building works, leaving residents and new social homes in limbo.
It’s not good enough,Gove release the guidance!

Young people need better access to digital and green skills.
I really believe giving them the chance to shape the future is key to delivering future prosperity.

Thank you
@BritSciAssoc
for the invitation to speak on your panel on the future of education.
A fantastic discussion about the challenges presented by technology, AI, and need for reform.
I spoke about the digital divide, how it’s unfair and holds back our prosperity.
Air pollution is a health crisis. We have to act now.
Just as we don’t want sewage in our rivers and coasts, we don’t want pollutants in our air either.
My recent piece in the Islington Tribune calling for clean air measures. 👇🏽
