Since we wanted to keep this project under wraps at beginning, we had to cover the number when transporting from Wolsingham to Chesterfield. So for those of you who were wondering where it is…hi! It’s here! 👋🏼

Positive Traction acquired the donor vehicle from RMS Locotec in 2021. Before transporting it the PT Vehicles Laboratory, the old engine & generator were craned out. The first step of revolutionising 08s and moving away from diesel.

Adjustment to the overall outline of the 08 meant some pretty drastic chopping & changing before it left Wolsingham. Here are the team stripping down the original bonnet.
We recognised that this opportunity meant we could improve the driver experience & safety.

1/2 We wanted to manage the risk of working at height on 08 Shunters, so the next step for us was to add a safety rail to protect workers and guests. On the prototype, this is now a permanent feature (though may or may not be yellow anymore!).

At Positive Traction, we are keen to embrace the future & pay homage to heritage. This is why we’ve kept certain features of the

in our new design.

Prime Time!
Amazing how much can change with a lick of paint. After the team lovingly scrubbed and scraped years worth of grease and dirt off and got it back to bare metal, it was time to prep & paint with anti-corrosive primer.

A couple of the amazing renders of our 08e, created by Antonio Serban.
Definitely looks like it would be right at home in Train Simulator 👀

Can’t wait for you all to see the real thing!

Once we’d levelled the deck, we could see how one of the PT Powerpods™️ (our design of a multi cell power bank) would fit in & so a scale model was built. We also lined up for new windows & had mock ups of the weighting plates made out of mdf.

🤷🏼♀️ if you think increased safety, control & HP and maintaining the same cab controls to retain driver familiarity whilst ALSO eliminating the use of diesel to move towards net zero on the railways are all bad things…then I’m not sure what else to tell you…😅

Jamie Felgate: aka ‘CAD Lad’.
Design engineer Jamie was given the job of giving the 08-E an improved look whilst keeping the mass, centre of gravity and brake force the same. The end result is thanks to Jamie’s initial design.

This is Louis. (/luːɪs/)
With the project from day 1, he loves getting his hands dirty & longs for those glorious days of cleaning oil and grease again😅
Louis is also studying for his engineering degree, looking after his many cars & most importantly, his daughter
Excited to host our US partners with a visit from Addie & Mike from Positive Traction US based in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Involved with us from the outset, they’re preparing to convert a GP9 locomotive using the PT Powertrain and PT Powerpod systems.
#greenenergy
From needle gunning & painting to the hazard analysis & business plan, Neal has been involved with the 08e from day 1.
"Re-purposing whilst reducing CO2 emissions & achieving genuine sustainability is a huge challenge, but doesn’t feel like work at all (...mostly!)"
The day the 08 arrived at the Vehicles’ Laboratory. Big thanks to Rob Ford & Sam for sorting the move.
Tarpaulin curtain up for privacy & protection from other projects. Access steps queued up, time to start the transformation💪🏼

We are a partnership between Independent Rail & Morri Holdings, working with RMS Locotec. One half of Morri is Neal Mortimer. Fully qualified town planner, but for 25 years, has been involved in renewable energy & rail.
2/2 Wooden mockups of the ballast plates & battery pod based on the CAD to sense check before they’re made out of significantly more expensive materials. Steel plates make up the difference in weight & give us a nice, flat deck & walkway to build on.

#allhandsondeck
Using our considerable rail industry experience and renewable energy expertise, Positive Traction endeavour to lower carbon emissions, improve control systems & safety to create a vastly cleaner alternative to diesel.

Our ongoing relationship with
@LithionBattery
& use of their Valence batteries has been instrumental with getting the 08e up & running - quite literally!
Thanks for all the support & looking forward to working together on both sides of the Atlantic! 🔋

We understand your point, which is why we’re telling you now. We couldn’t risk people trying to find it whilst it was being worked on in the early stages.

🫣 no hot plate! But only because we built this prototype with a specific customer in mind and they didn’t want it. We could easily replace it with something of equal purpose if it was required!
