Mind boggling that against a backdrop of ecological crisis in Lough Neagh that the DUP & UUP opposed a motion for multi-agency action on Blue/Green Algae tonight at
@abcb_council
The Lough is dying in plain sight. It’s absolutely vital we protect our greatest environmental asset
Beyond astounded to have been elected on the 1st count in Lurgan. Thank you to each and every one of you who placed your trust in me and the
@allianceparty
. I won’t let you down.
Disappointed that our Alliance proposal to light
@abcb_council
civic buildings white to symbolise a desire for peace in Israel and Palestine was defeated.
Instead, the DUP & UUP voted to light up in the colours of the Israeli flag for 7 days.
Every civilian life is equal.
I condemn the erection of a UVF mural in Lurgan which was painted on a wall near the entrance to the park.
This is not history or culture, instead is is a clear attempt to mark territory and intimidate.
Lurgan will continue to move towards a positive future undeterred.
Absolutely outrageous that all UUP and DUP cllrs voted against a motion to explore
@abcb_council
organising an annual Pride event in the borough.
Beyond belief that such a positive recognition of inclusion could be blocked by those looking towards the past.
I’ve just voted to make history in Lagan Valley!
Together we can elect
@SorchaEastwood
as the first cross-community Alliance MP for Lagan Valley!
Polls are open until 10pm and you’ll need to bring photo ID to vote.

"While any of us are not equal, none of us are equal,"
@naomi_long
says, as she responds to concerns over her support of the
#BlackLivesMatter
movement.
Disappointed that most of my posters erected in south Lurgan have been stolen. They were only up one day.
Criminal thugs will not deter me from being a representative for all of Lurgan. The theft has been reported to the police.
People’s livelihoods are not ‘leverage’ to be gambled away. Many are struggling to heat their homes and all
@J_Donaldson_MP
can do is scaremonger. Northern Ireland deserves better.
Jeffrey Donaldson says he will not be going back into the executive until the protocol matter is dealt with. "The only leverage we have is our participation in the institutions and if we continue to do business as usual we'll be taken for granted"
@BBCNewsNI
Saddened that UUP+DUP pressed on with lighting buildings in the colours of Israel only
An Alliance Party proposal to light buildings white as a symbol of our desire for peace in Israel and Gaza was defeated. I hope for a cessation of violence and protection of all innocent lives
The three main Civic Buildings will be lit up white and blue, for a seven day period from this evening Tuesday, 12 December 2023, as an expression of support and sign of solidarity with Israel following the Hamas terror attacks on Saturday, 7 October.
This is horrendous if true.
There is no place for paramilitaries in Lurgan. The “resistance” they talk of was brutal sectarian murder, intimidation and drug dealing.
I have reported this to the PSNI and hope they act swiftly to identify the thugs behind this sinister incident.
Displayed at Brownlow House each of these crosses, tied with a coloured ribbon, represents someone who died in the Lurgan Workhouse during the Great Famine.
Black ribbons for men, white for women, blue for boys and pink for girls.
Agreement has been reached to end industrial action in ABC Council.
Alliance believe the settlement, represents a fair deal for staff and protects public services.
Further updates on service resumption will be released on
@abcb_council
social media channels.
🗳 Here we go again!! 🗳️
I am seeking re-election as the
@allianceparty
candidate for the Lurgan DEA!
You can send a message to the wreckers and blockers holding us all to ransom by voting Alliance - Vote Lavery 1 on 18 May!
#AllianceWorks
#LaveryforLurgan
The people behind this offer nothing positive for Lurgan.
Their actions only harm the lives local residents and cause disruption for those heading to work in the morning.
Lurgan is a town looking to a positive future and will not be held back by these thugs of the past.
Pride events have been hugely successful across Northern Ireland - from Larne to Omagh - celebrating diversity and bringing people together.
This month
@allianceparty
cllrs are proposing that we explore organising an annual Pride event in Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon.
Was great to be out campaigning for Sorcha Eastwood in my home patch of Magheralin and Lurgan today!
Together we can elect Sorcha as a progressive, cross-community MP for Lagan Valley! On 4th July

First meeting completed as Chair of the
@abcb_council
Planning committee!
Will use my role to articulate the importance of environmental protection and the consideration of active travel in planning applications. 🌳🚴🏫
That’s me officially nominated as the
@allianceparty
candidate for the Lurgan DEA!
I am part of a team of 7 candidates who have the ability and talent to deliver better for our borough.
On 18th May, for politics that works, vote Alliance.
#AllianceWorks
I will be bringing my proposal opposing oil exploration in the South Lough Neagh area to full council tomorrow. Looks like the SDLP will vote with us this time but hopefully the UUP and DUP do as well so it can pass unanimously and send a strong message to protect our environment
It has been a pleasure to campaign for
@SorchaEastwood
over the past month.

The reality is that the majority of NI don’t want to leave the EU and Nigel knows it.
The DUP have yet to come forward with any credible proposals for Brexit and instead have backed this unworkable approach by Johnston that they know will be rejected and leave us with no deal.
Our message to Leo is simple.
He should reflect on his comments and his intransigent approach.
He is destined to go down in history as the Taoiseach who restored a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic because his friends in Brussels will insist on it.
Deeply disgusted by the video being shared of people signing a song about the murder of Michaela McAreavey. How can people be so hateful?
All our thoughts are with Micheala’s family as they continue to strive for justice.
Democratic duty done for the day. Was proud to vote for
@EoinTennyson
in Upper Bann.
Whatever your views I always encourage people to go out and vote. Many people fought long and hard to ensure voting rights. Make sure your voice is heard.
#AE22
Honoured to have been re-selected as the
@allianceparty
candidate for the Lurgan DEA ahead of the elections in May.
Lurgan has so much untapped potential and over the coming Council term I want to work with others to unlock that opportunity.
#LaveryForLurgan
Spent the evening getting lectured by the DUP on transparency and the appropriate spending of rate payers money... then I came home to a new book through the door.
A reminder of why I’m on council to fight for a shared future
#DemandBetter
Jeffrey Donaldson increasingly looks reluctant to leave Westminster. He said he'd return to Stormont if a seat became available, but hasn't - three times. He also hasn't denied he'll run for the Assembly & then immediately quit to co-opt a colleague...
Disappointed that my Universal Basic Income motion at ABC Council had all references to UBI removed by Sinn Fein, DUP and UUP... particularly strange when they have given full support in other councils areas.
People are falling through the cracks who need urgent support.
#UBI
A number of paramilitary flags have been erected at various locations across Lurgan over recent days. The erection of these flags is a clear attempt to mark territory and intimidate residents.
I have been in contact with the PSNI and DfI asking for the flags to be removed.
It has been a historic election.
I'm so grateful to have received the support of people from right across our community.
Now it's time to get on with the job - tackling the cost of living, fixing our health service and healing division.
When Edwin Poots was Health Minister he maintained the ban on gay people giving blood, not because of any scientific evidence, but because his views were “infected by apparent bias” according to a judge.
I’ll be taking medical advice from the scientific officers and not Mr Poots
.
@niexecutive
minister
@edwinpootsmla
tells
@BBCTalkback
he has told Chief Medical Officer & Chief Scientific Adviser NI needs to “take an entirely different approach” to combatting Covid compared to the path it has now embarked on
This is horrendous. All families deserve to live without fear of attack or harassment. That they have been target solely because of their nationality is a disgrace that needs to end immediately.
So Sinn Féin finally come out and say they're not in favour of a ban on Fox Hunting. How can you 'regulate' the ripping apart of foxes or other wild animals by dogs?? A complete ban of this cruel practice is needed.
Latest statement from Sinn Féin on the hunting bill - it says the party’s position north & south is that regulation is the “best approach”, not a ban. And repeats criticism of how the PMB had been drafted
Well said Linda. When I was at the beginners class in Turas, East Belfast two years ago there were people from all backgrounds and ages learning together. The Irish language belongs to us all.
It’s been a good year with some of our learners obtaining great results at uni & plans for an integrated Irish-medium nursery school progressing. We’ve shown that Protestants learn Irish, speak Irish, teach Irish, do degrees in Irish; but still don’t know any who fly helicopters.
Keith has a short memory. A few weeks ago at the last ABC council meeting I and my
@allianceparty
colleagues proposed the removal of divisive flags from across all of our borough. Keith along with the rest of Sinn Fein, plus the DUP and UUP voted against (SDLP abstained).
It was a real joy to canvass my home village of Aghagallon today for Alliance Upper Bann candidate
@EoinTennyson
.
Plenty of casework picked up that will keep me busy! If we missed you and you’d like to chat please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
At the Lurgan Town Centre meeting tonight I raised the issue that local cycling infrastructure needs to be improved. This could include additional bike racks or linking the town up with the cycle lanes in Craigavon.
If you are a cyclist in the Lurgan area what do you think?🚲
It’s not all doom and gloom. Up until a month ago this site in Lurgan contained an interface barrier that was erected to separate communities. Recently local residents took the decision to have the barrier removed and replaced with trees. Brighter times lie ahead.
Solidarity with all the nurses and healthcare workers who are taking strike action today. They deserve pay parity and support to ensure safe staffing levels.
Good to see the new ‘Welcome to Lurgan’ sign erected in High Street. Hopefully this will give strangers comfort that they haven’t arrived by accident in a dodgy place like Portadown!
Another will be placed in William Street beside the vets.
Very disappointed in the UUP position. The Irish language belongs to us all.
There is more than enough room in our society where all cultures can be accommodated, respected and celebrated.
The Changing Places toilet facility is now open in Lurgan Park! This will help to make the park even more inclusive and accessible for everyone who visits.
Extremely disappointed that Sinn Fein joined with DUP and TUV MLAs to vote down
@JohnBlairMLA
’s bill to ban hunting wild animals with dogs (such as fox hunting). This barbaric practise should have been outlawed long ago.
Disappointed that Sinn Féin, some of DUP and Jim Allister have combined to block progress on my Private Member’s Bill to ban hunting wild mammals with dogs.
I can assure everyone that animal welfare remains a priority for the
@allianceparty
.
Belfast Marathon with Jonny. Was a tough last few miles but we made it!
Well done to everyone who ran the full race and relay, as well as those cheering people on the whole way round. 😀🏅🏃
Brilliant to see the Assembly vote to include a net-zero target in the Climate Change Bill.
It’s sad to see the UUP, DUP & TUV vote against, but progress won’t be stopped ♻️🌳🌎
I am honoured to have been selected as the Alliance Party candidate for the Lurgan DEA ahead of the council elections.
Like many of you I am frustrated at the current state our politics. There has never been a greater need for positive, progressive voices on ABC Council!
It was great to have
@StephenFarryMP
out on the campaign trail this morning in Lurgan.
For politics that works, on 18th May, in the Lurgan DEA vote Lavery 1.
#AllianceWorks
Removing these illegally erected paramilitary objects will be a positive step towards a shared future for us all. Hopefully it will get full support from all parties at tonight’s Council meeting.
Illegally erected paramilitary murals should not be appearing in our community 23 years after the GFA.
@plavery10
& I are proposing a motion at Council tonight calling for their removal & re-imaging with positive, culturally-relevant displays.
I have requested that at the next Planning Ctte in July time be set aside so that we can discuss how ABC Council can help facilitate active travel across the borough. 🚲
There is more to Northern Ireland than just Belfast and Derry in terms of need for cycling infrastructure.
🌳💡Time to Light Up Lurgan Park 💡🌳
This month I will be bringing a motion to
@abcb_council
to improve lighting in Lurgan Park in order to ensure the park is safe and can open for longer in winter evenings.
#LurganPark
Great to see
@EoinTennyson
finally able to make his maiden speech in the NI Assembly.
Looking forward to see what he and the expanded Alliance team will be able to deliver for the entire community.
#SharedFuture
It was an honour and privilege to make my Maiden Speech as the first Alliance MLA for Upper Bann.
The new Assembly represents a diverse and changing Northern Ireland.
We must now end the cycle of stop-go government and deliver for the people we are elected to serve.
🥇🏊🏻♂️ It’s gold for Daniel!! 🥇🏊🏻♂️

Bringing the
#AllianceWorks
message to Aghagallon. Really grateful for the support today on my home patch.
For politics that works vote Lavery 1 on 18th of May.
I’m disappointed that this happened. I will always stand shoulder to shoulder with anyone who gets abused no matter their background. They can always count on me to back them to help take on the bullies.
Just when you think the level of political discourse couldn’t sink any lower, a councillor labels my colleague
@plavery10
a “b*****d” during a vote.
No one goes to work to be verbally abused or bullied. A new low for ABC Council. People rightly expect and deserve better.
Let there be light!
I spoke at Leisure ctte last night putting the lighting of Lurgan Park back on the Council agenda.
This will be of benefit to runners, dog-walkers and many others whilst connecting communities, enabling active lifestyles and make dark nights less depressing
Months of campaigning, thousands of doors knocked, many great conversations and now we are on the eve of the election!
Tomorrow you have the opportunity to send a message to the blockers by voting for politics that works. In the Lurgan DEA vote Lavery 1
#AllianceWorks
Stanton poses as a counselling service but has made false claims linking abortions to cancer.
Whatever your view on abortion this is a disgraceful tactic that targets vulnerable women who deserve impartial medical advice on all options.
I won’t tolerate these tactics in Lurgan.
This was shocking from DUP and UUP. I was recently at an environmental event where their reps and I spoke in favour of doing more to protect our environment. Only Alliance followed through on the promise.
Speechless. DUP and most UUP vote down call for local government pension scheme to be divested from fossil fuels.
This is a Climate Emergency. Our constituents are demanding action. 🌍
#NoPlanetB
Was great to take part in the Jog On Cancer 10k this morning in Lurgan Park organised by the inspirational Knitted Knockers group! The volunteers in the group do so much good work for those going through Breast Cancer and for raising awareness, we’re lucky to have them in Lurgan.
APPROVED! ABC Council’s Planning Committee has granted approval for a new state-of-the-art play park at Oxford Island, Craigavon.
The park will more than treble in size with over 20 pieces of play equipment installed to provide fun for children of all ages.
Our motion passed!! The rainbow flag will fly from civic buildings in Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon this August. I never thought I’d see the day! This means the world to the LGBTQ+ community. Thank you to every single Councillor who voted in favour. 🏳️🌈
Everyone wants to live in a community that is free from barriers, both physical and mental, so I welcome the proposed removal of the interface barrier in Lurgan.
Alliance Councillor for Lurgan
@plavery10
has welcomed news that a post-ceasefire barrier in Lurgan is set to be removed by the end of this summer.
The steel interface fence, which is almost two-and-a-half metres high, was erected at Margretta Park in 1999.
Highland Fling Ultra 2024🏃⛰️
Was a tough 53 miles but a great way to spend a day in beautiful scenery. Finished in just under 14 hours. Big thank you to the organisers and volunteers for putting on a fantastic event!
@flingrace
Full solidarity with
@naomi_long
tonight. The amount of abuse she and other female public figures are subjected to on here is horrendous. Social media platforms need to do more to ban abusive bullies.
This is deeply depressing. Ultimately those behind this hate campaign will not succeed long term. Instead our future will be shaped in a positive direction by people like
@ErvineLinda
. We are very lucky to have her and all those involved with
@NaiscoilSeolta
.
It with great sadness and regret that we had to inform our school community today of the decision of the Integrated Naíscoil na Seolta to relocate to another site due to actions of individuals not connected to the school.

@DDawson2020
This afternoon I represented
@allianceparty
at a rally outside Craigavon Hospital in support of the Save Craigavon Breast Services campaign. This group of dedicated volunteers have worked hard to make sure that the voices of local people will be heard in the consultation process.
Was great to call into Brownlow Library as part of Book Week to chat with staff and hear about their exciting plans. Their library buses have recently got out on the road again which will help to provide services in rural areas and help tackle loneliness.
#BookWeekNI
After never having been in a gym before I just had my first session in the new South Lake Leisure Centre. Very helpful staff and top class equipment.
Got stuck into the sausage rolls from Café IncredABLE straight after so maybe the gains will will have to wait for another day 😂
Civic duty done 🗳️
Polling stations are open 7am-10pm so plenty of time to get out and cast your vote. Remember to bring photographic ID.
In the Lurgan DEA, if you want politics that works, vote Alliance. Vote Lavery 1.
Great

conference!
Plenty of positivity showing that Alliance is ready to get to work when the Assembly gets back up and running.
In particular, the calibre of council candidates highlights the breadth and depth of talent in the party.

After setting a new personal best in the parkrun I spent the afternoon delivering my contact cards in Lurgan. If you ever think there is an issue that I could help you with please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Great to hear from
@EoinTennyson
at the
@allianceparty
conference about how together we can elect the first cross-community, progressive Alliance MLA in Upper Bann
#APNI2022
I will be supporting Cllr Tennyson’s motion tonight. It’s time that we transitioned from investing in fossil fuels to instead putting money toward renewable energy sources.
Just 100 companies are responsible for more than 70% of greenhouse gas emissions.
That’s why I’m calling on NILGOSC to divest the Local Government pension scheme from fossil fuel companies.
#DemandBetter
Like many of you I am frustrated at the current state our politics so I put myself forward to help change it. If you want things to change for the better then you have to vote for it, so if you are heading to the polls tomorrow in the Lurgan DEA keep me in mind.
#LaveryForLurgan
I completely condemn the homophobic graffiti that has been placed on a building across from Lurgan hospital.
Lurgan is an inclusive, welcoming town in which the vast majority of residents are looking towards a positive future.
I have asked for the graffiti to be removed ASAP.
@EoinTennyson
It was sad to hear Eóin. I will always stand shoulder to shoulder with anyone who gets abused no matter their background. They can always count on me to back them to take on the bullies.
Can’t believe that Unionists teamed up to opppose increased transparency on ABC Council planning committee votes!😡
Why do they not want residents to have this information???
@ZMcCullough_UUP
@abcb_council
I’m disappointed by the way your UUP colleagues voted. The financial contribution you mention previously was £500. A small price to pay to be more inclusive, but a cost to high for those stuck in the past.
Was great to hear
@naomi_long
speak at the
@allianceparty
conference about her delivery of progressive legislation as Justice Minister and the continuing drive from Alliance to achieve a more shared and inclusive society for all

Great news that Lurgan Model Primary School has received approval to transform to an integrated status!! 🎉🎉
This is fantastic for the entire community of the school as well as Lurgan town as a whole. Exciting times ahead!
