Judges sitting in the Family Court have to decide what is in the best interests of a child every day of the week. Either because the parents can’t agree or because they may not be acting in the best interests of the child. That is neither morally offensive nor nonsensical.

HM the Queen is truly remarkable. 95 years old. Lost her beloved husband only 2 months ago. Cornwall yesterday for the G7. Windsor today for Trooping the Colour. On and on she goes….

Beating a wild animal to death (allegedly). Tweeting about it (why on earth would you?) Inevitably getting yourself and your profession plastered all over social media and the national press. Will someone explain to me how that isn’t bringing the profession into disrepute? 🤷‍♂️

How can it seriously be suggested that @trussliz now commands the confidence of @HouseofCommons or of the country (assuming she ever did)? No serious democracy can function like this.

A prime ministerial address to the nation like this should happen once in a generation or at a time of national or global crisis. Not when the party in government is tanking in the polls and the current prime minister hopes this might be his last gasp hope of winning an election.

This absurd buffoon of a prime minister has no respect for the rule of law , but once again he is lying. He didn’t ‘see off’ the President of @UKSupremeCourt . That court ruled unanimously his request to prorogue parliament was unlawful, a nullity, and parliament was recalled.

The idea ‘fat cat lawyers’ exploit the legal aid fund is complete and utter nonsense. In my field of family law, legal aid is effectively now only available in public law cases. The lawyers who undertake this work are dedicated and hard working and (very) modestly remunerated.

I know I bang on about this government. Tiresome, isn’t it? But the inescapable fact is that this government lies. Out and out lies. From the top down, there’s plainly a conspiracy to lie to the electorate. Because they think they can and will get away with it.

This is a truly tragic case. Exceptionally, four psychiatrists all concluded the defendant was suffering from a severe abnormality of mind at the material time. And yet the current Attorney General still announces a performative review of the CPS decision.

I know it’s an obvious point, but with this prime minister it’s time, after time, after time. Much of it involving public funds or other people’s money. Surely there comes a point when the paper thin excuses just don’t wash?

I have always said Boris Johnson isn’t fit to be prime minister. Events of the last few days clearly demonstrate this. He’s a one trick Brexit pony. But let’s not pretend this means Jeremy Corbyn is any better. He isn’t. He too would be a dreadful prime minister. What a choice.

The consequences of this truly unfortunate incident were tragic. But as was plain at the time, and as the Court of Appeal has now found, Auriol Grey should never have been convicted. And the 3 year jail term was absurd.

What possible excuse could there be for any child having to live like this? Surely there comes a point when we all have to say ‘in all conscience, this just isn’t acceptable’. No ifs. No buts. No party political posturing. It’s shameful.
