I absolutely love this as it captures, without doubt, the current travails of many young lawyers out there. As someone has interviewed a number of young lawyers and discussed with other small to midsized firm principals and employers here’s my advice:
My friend recently told me of a lady who's got double first-class. One from the university and another from the law school and hasn't been able to get an offer from a law firm.
I'm not so superstitious, I'd have imagined village people had a hand in it.
Why am I sharing?

Did you know that parents have no exclusive right to deny a child blood transfusion in life threatening situations on the ground of religion? According to the Supreme Court in ESABUNOR v. FAWEYA & ORS (2019) LPELR-46961(SC) saving life outweighs religious beliefs of any Sect. 1/2
For the records, Wunmi is not the one doubting the paternity of her own son.
Mobad’s father has alleged that Liam is not Mobad’s legitimate son, he is the one that needs to prove that. How is he to do that and why is Wunmi asking for a court order? Stay with me.

Thank you for this. Body changes in ways it can’t even recover from. Two years on, I still have pelvic pain, can’t do a stand on my left leg or lean on it for more than 5 secs. My body never really got its balance back...

I’ve learnt that in politics, there just no satisfying everyone. The same people saying he should go and contest to be estate chairman will tell him that that position is too low for him if he goes for it.

Persons have unrestrained liberty to pick &choose names that please law in Nigeria restricts a person to a fixed number of names.Even if names are identical or same, no one has a legal right to restrain another person from answering or bearing those names”
Six years ago,
@BarackObama
started the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders in recognition of the fact that young people anywhere, with the right resources and support can change the world.
In all, stay hungry. Nobody is going to serve you on a platter because you made a 1st class. You still need to go out there, hustle like you made a pass and give your best like the 1st class brain that you are.
At the end of the day, everything good will come 🤗
My take is: Mobad’s dad won’t go this court order route. When we search deeply within ourselves, we will know that this battle by Mobad’s dad is actually a one of a father seeking to inherit his prematurely deceased son to the exclusion of all members of his son’s nuclear family.
The lesson here is simple people. Enjoy life. Enjoy your money and the result of your hard work. You are not too young to tidy your affairs. Write a will and pray for useful people to take care of all you left behind.
Happy Easter.

A lot of hard work, tenacity, discipline and grace combined to get you to where you are today. Good grades are excellent to have but poor grades should also not define you. Thank you for being an inspiration. Very well done and always super proud 👏🏾

1. Remember law school but forget it at the same time. This is real life. Many employers believe that people who made 1st class will be employed by top tier firms. Other small to mid sized firm who employ them share experiences of their instability.
4. Many young lawyers will tell you they want corporate work. Nothing bad in that. However realize that you will add more value to the corporate entity with some legal or litigation experience. Some companies will not even employ you without some litigation experience.

There are fewer women at the top of the legal ladder because of the phrase ‘appointment is by merit’.Who determines merit, what is meritorious &what is not?Is a judge’s effectiveness determined by the loudness of his voice? Deep questions by baroness Helena

2. Many of the young lawyers will tell you outrightly that they do not want litigation. That’s not bad but, they have applied to your core litigation firm. You know litigation is driven by passion otherwise it will stress you badly. That person is automatically out of your list.

While many will say it’s more ideal to go law school before service, I will say, judge by your situation. If your school has a waitlist for law school, rather than sit at home, go for NYSC. I currently have a lawyer serving in my office who is yet to go to law school.
Unfortunately for the 1st class grads, over 200 of them were so awarded in March. They will need to keep this in mind when searching. How many top tier firms do we have? How many 1st class grads will they employ? Will they fire their current staff just to hire all 1st class grads?
