I’m just going to say it: one-man Bible translations are usually vanity projects with no reason to exist beyond selling copies to the translator’s fan base. There are exceptions. But they are few.

Why do people need a Bible translation in their main language if they can conduct business or trade in another language that already has a Bible? Because they need the Bible in the language they sin in. That’s how I heard a missionary explain it recently.

I think an easy way to show that the Bible teaches penal substitutionary atonement is with three simple observations: 1. Throughout the Bible, death is a penalty for sin 2. Jesus died but was sinless, therefore… 3. Jesus’ death was a punishment for someone else’s sin (ours)

PSA for apologists: Matthew’s Gospel exists in about 1,800 Greek MSS; Revelation in only about 300. If you don’t think this makes Matthew 6× more textually reliable than Revelation, then don’t apply this same logic to the NT and classical works either!

Careless exaggeration breeds careless exaggeration. Take point 3, here. It directly conflicts with point 1. If most of our MSS are later (as they are) then so are most of our variants. That’s how it works. Spend time with a big apparatus to see it. (Most NT scholars never do.)

What’s being left out: - Vast majority are from after the 9th century. - The earlier the manuscripts, the less they contain. - The earlier the manuscripts, the more variants there are. - For almost all NT texts, we can’t cannot account for the first century+ of transmission.

Outrageous! I 100% agree with the motive here but disagree with the method. Take your GNT to church but don’t be smug or showy about it. Gifts (like knowing Greek) are for serving. Steward them by taking your GNT to church. But use them to serve others not yourself.
