@PlanningShit Inevitably the "restoration fund" will be spent in posh areas whilst the plebs get a concrete jungle.

@Sam_Dumitriu 5 or 6 miles on a bike is like 30 minutes - people are doing this in London so why not build equivalent infrastructure for bikes in these cities? Probably quicker than waiting for a train.

@billiejade1984 @HMRCcustomers I thought I was being overcharged as well but it's a weekly benefit, paid every 4 weeks in arrears. There was increase in 2023 up to £24 but the payment you received in April would've been for the weeks before the increase. The tax charge is calculated after the increase.

@owenboswarva @JNCC_UK Severe lack of technical detail in the notice - looks like it's a .NET API and uses Kendo UI for the frontend should anyone think of applying.

@Psythor Isn't there a perverse incentive here? If a council knows about a pothole then they can become liable for damages if not fixed within a reasonable time - so having AI report more potholes than a human would make things worse for them?

@Autoglass I've booked a replacement windscreen for a Ford Focus Estate online but wanted to confirm they will replace it with an equivalent heated windscreen - the form didn't provide any options and the confirmation page didn't say what kind of glass it was.

@Paul_SLG A couple of my favourites from transport models: 1) "peak spreading" - traffic will be so bad people will leave earlier/later to avoid the peak; 2) when the model ends up in a gridlocked state they discard that run as they assume that people would avoid the gridlock

@TheBossnME @Jontafkasi Had an old Ford Fiesta that we replaced the battery and alternator on but was still draining. Took it to an old guy who cleaned the earth contact to the body and the problem went away. Tracking down electrical problems are the worst.

@Haramb928111 @anon_opin We changed to the Gregorian calendar in 1752 so that's 365.2425 days in a year now 😂

@Psythor DVLA also good now - picked up a 2nd-hand car from the dealer at 5pm Wednesday, VED direct debit setup on the spot and V5C arrived this morning. My written-off car was similarly dealt with - transferred to insurance company and VED cancelled in one online transaction.

@greennuneaton Nice to be emailed by the police someone has spotted you breaking the law and give you time to destroy evidence 🙄

@dhh @ColinHayhurst I'd already conceded that point about UK libel law 😂 It's regularly abused by oligarchs, etc. to keep people quiet but has seen some revisions in the past decade to prevent some of the worst abuses.

@dhh @ColinHayhurst Yet today the Tate brothers bullied a rape gang victim into deleting a tweet containing accusations about them with threats of libel - accusations that are still under investigation. That doesn't seem a balanced system does it?

@dhh @ColinHayhurst Yes, the whole prove your innocence with UK libel law is bad but in this case it's been debunked thoroughly multiple times and the document is publicly available. There has to be a point at which this can't be repeated ad infinitum.

@dhh @ColinHayhurst There's regime critical and then there's outright libel. Some of the stuff I've seen over the past few days has definitely fallen over the wrong side of that line - especially the stuff about the ex-PM Gordon Brown.

@jankomarohnic @Morozzzko e.g: class Thing include ActiveModel::API include ActiveModel::Attributes attribute :created_at, :datetime, default: -> { } end Every time I do `created_at` I get a different value.

@taylorrobe79522 @RNobody1991 @matthewsyed @thetimes A half decent search engine would implement stemming where you reduce the search index and phrase words to their root form - that way searching for 'gangs' would pick up both 'gang' and 'gangs'
