@MatthewStadlen I hate to say it, but I am increasingly of the view that just because you're born here and you hold a British passport, that does not make you a Brit. You cannot call yourself British and put another identity first or equal to it, it is lunacy to say otherwise.

@RobertMLeonard3 @peterrhague Most of which took place after the summer of 1940 when the threat of a Nazi invasion had been staved off.

@RobertMLeonard3 @peterrhague A large part of America fought to preserve and expand slavery. It was only later did the North actively fight against slavery. You also didn't "save" us from the Nazi's. Made defeat of them possible, but we had already staved off the threat of invasion by 1941.

@Mongrelbite @peterrhague As more people in Britain came to learn about slavery and its horrors, the stronger the argument for abolition became. The abolition of slavery within the Empire was done for mostly altruistic reasons.

@niall_gooch At school from 1995-2007 and same story. There was zero teaching regarding putting the British Empire in a positive light.

@MarkMarksson @niall_gooch As I said, Singapore pays its politicians a fortune with harsh penalties for corruption. They seem to be doing alright. Where's the evidence showing the opposite works?

@MarkMarksson @niall_gooch But who would become an MP on an average salary? Where is the evidence that this works?

@MarkMarksson @niall_gooch 4/ In short, we need to ensure MP's are paid competitively for the role they do. It isn't popular, but if we want better politicians, we have to start somewhere. Works for Singapore where they do this.

@MarkMarksson @niall_gooch Why not go the whole hog and pay them nothing? We did that in the Georgian era for example? Granted, only the super rich of the day could afford to and were willing to do it, but you know...

@Danjsalt Even as someone who hates Labour with a passion right now, this is as close as he can probably get to saying it's bonkers.

I would endorse Trump putting tariff's of 500% on us at least for this moronic capitulation.

@from_hackney If he had added that this was since the Premier League switched to 38 games per season (1995/96), he might have had a point. However, the gulf between the top teams and everyone else has exploded since Ferguson retired, resulting in the top teams getting these number of points.

@georgia_bucea @DavidDeutschOxf There were plenty of peaceful protests by the Suffragists for example that attracted plenty of support from Liberal and Labour MP's as well as the public. However, smashing windows, letter bombs etc used by the Suffragettes for example, were a hindrance to the cause.

@Lovehasnowords1 By and large, High St's are somewhere people go to do things like eat out, have a coffee, drink etc rather than as a place to shop. In regards the latter, there's a substantial amount of alternatives that are cheaper and more convenient as you allude to.
