every frame of this trailer was boarded, modeled, and painstakingly hand-animated entirely in-house.
every environment was lit, framed, and shot entirely in-engine.
tysm for playing our game! really glad you had fun - we'll see about getting those colors in for you...
P.S. it's a little late, but happy birthdayy
#gawrt
in case you were curious, i did boards and all the layouts w/
@spellbang
, chunks of the environment modeling and lighting, the art/animation direction, and *small* bits of final animation alongside our incredible animation team! I also did all the final comp and motion graphics.
hey! i'm directing this game with
@pixelhavokk
(we both handle too many things to list in the remaining space on this tweet) and now that it's been a day and I've gotten more than an hour of sleep, it's time to talk through the process on this trailer a bit i think! cool
i made merch designs! come by our booth at MAGFest 2022 and you too can become decked the heck out in two t-shirts and a hoodie
(ks backers, we're working on a unique design just for you, so hang on tight!)
in honor of me using this hellsite more, here's a thing i did recently on unbeatable
all the sprites now have a fully dynamic rimlight! bashed this together over a very bored weekend
this is despite me being complete ass at writing shaders
@SeptagonA
@coalbones
thank you!
it's really just a neat byproduct - the primary reason we do this is just to ensure visual consistency between the game and the cutscenes
@NormHammer
@coalbones
it's actually a dynamic rimlight shader based on light direction and intensity! we use it in conjunction with hand-drawn shadows on a case by case basis - you can see more of it here:

i did the layouts, art dir., 3d work, and compositing for this trailer! really proud of everyone who worked on it and how it came together 🥹
there weren't any cockpit interior references, so i tried to give the lil switches and panels inside a more analog 80's anime look
only vaguely following the discourse but even though our game is still itself *in development* i think it'd be neat to look at our very first combat prototype (sound muted for obv reasons)
hey everyone, we'd like to finally introduce you all to our wonderful animation team! they're doing amazing work, so check out their socials and give them some support!
the more you work on games the faster you come to realize that video games ever getting released at all is an insane miracle
absolutely ludicrous, impossible
i'm gonna be honest, now that i no longer share an apartment with 5 other people i suddenly see the appeal of constantly tweeting
just throwing my unhinged screams into the void as the crippling isolation gets to me
some people say animation can be really tedious. i say you haven't experienced true pain until you need to reanimate all the animations in your game five times at slightly different angles to do 8 directional movement
New Friends. New Tunes.
UNBEATABLE is coming back to
@MAGFEST
2020 (January 2nd-5th) as a part of the INDIE GAME SHOWCASE (
@MIVSMAGFest
)!
An all-new demo. Exciting announcements. Exclusive merch. The entire team will be back. We hope to see you there!
you ever start on working on a tiny 'lil game and 30 minutes later you're in hell trying to figure out how to avoid the wrath of floating point imprecision
is it possible for there to be such a thing as a perfect video game?
yeah, evidently, it's called xenoblade chronicles 3
takahashi you have ruined me forever, congrats
there is a ton of latent toxicity in pompo the cinephile and in hirao’s perception of the creative process that he is trying to grapple with; it’s a film about “hollywood” that is, actually, just contorted into a blatant stand-in of the director and the anime industry
but also
kyoani is full of some of the brightest, most talented people in the japanese anime industry, and responsible for so many incredible, beloved works over the years. seeing what happened today was absolutely heartbreaking. please consider supporting them if you can.
game-feel was one of the first things i targeted with our initial prototype; if it feels JUICY with just colored rectangles it'll feel even better with proper animations
we did an absolutely insane number of iterations vaguely like this
our game is highly defined by it's aesthetic; we definitely have to hit our visual targets earlier than other projects might (2d animation is a bitch)
even then all that still happens *after* we make sure the game works lol
i have no idea where i'd go when twitter inevitably implodes...
everyone is heading off to different places and there isn't any other single space that lets me stuff this diverse a collection of people and interests and groups into my brain like soft cheese
i really just won rock paper scissors against masahiko otsuka at the otakon trigger q&a and then fumbled the bag at the last minute when i drew the only joker in the deck 🥹
farewell, signed illustration

@dcellgames
is halfway to their kickstarter goal on day 1.
I'm not saying go pledge, I'm saying go watch that freakin trailer and decide for yourself. 🤩🤩🤩
@staraptures
STAR!! YOUR CUTS!! WERE SO GOOD!! i'm so sorry we had to cut so many of your shots down for this trailer 🥲
y'all would Not Believe how amazing their work on this is.
finished ff16
very *very* complicated thoughts about the game, but as a person who (clearly) adores life-affirming anime bullshit, this thing managed to pull things together by those goddamn final moments lmao
truly an ironic twist of fate that mappa of all studios is bankrolling csm without a production committee - and the quality/attention to detail on display makes me think they’ll probably pull it off
recently been replaying the "bad" zelda games (twilight princess, skyward sword) and unfortunately i think i have to come to terms with the upsetting realization that i'm really into bad video games😔
one day i will write down my crackpot theory about how splatoon is the most important piece of the broader xeno series canon, and i will win a pulitzer for it
formulating a lot of thoughts about xc3 over the past while, and i think while i have my fair share of issues with it, the fact that i will never emotionally recover from this stupid fucking game is telling
