@Qantas
As a platinum one frequent flier, I’d prefer you just focus on, oh, I dunno, in flight safety during the inflight safety video? Why do we need a long video with all this added inapplicable information? Just opens up the door to misunderstanding and people tuning out. Focus on

If you are having a hard time understanding or remembering something, find the words you don’t have full definitions for and look up the definitions using them in sentences until you get them and re-read the text and you’ll understand it. Magic.

- but this is a very common situation across your accounts teams. As CEO, I have only screamed in frustration twice in the last 3 years - both times while trying to deal with Salesforce accounts billing teams.
Railscasts is where I learnt a LOT and where I won my first and only competition :) on top of that, Ryan is by all measures one of the best Rails developers I know and have the pleasure to work with. Railscasts is part of Rails history.

@Qantas
thanks for the reply, but the point still stands that safety videos should be there to get people to focus on safety, not anything else. Safe places and the like have nothing to do with knowing where to get your life vest if the plane is going down over water.

Well done

on the JRuby 9.4 release! Just updated to add explicit JRuby support for 9.2, 9.3, 9.4 and HEAD. Was passing previously on "jruby" target so not expecting any issues.

Slackware, carefully dd’d onto a new set of 5.25” floppy disks one by one at Uni and then sneaker net back home to install and find the 5th disk was corrupted and wait 5 days to try again.

No, had no idea I could do that really, but thats great. I know the bigger the company the harder it is to keep the culture, so instead of complaining, I’ll send you some constructive thoughts. Thank you.

I’d do the CEO poll as well. He’s not stupid. He knows the poll result will be to leave. Then he can step aside as he already plans to do and the story is “twitter has spoken” instead of “abandoning twitter”

Ruby has staying power, why? Because it is the only language that optimises for developer happiness and probably the simplest to stand up your average (and exceptional) business application with Rails. It’s the core product for my two SaaS companies (

"The most in-demand skill was Ruby on Rails, with engineers skilled in this framework and scripting language receiving 1.64x more interview requests compared to the marketplace average. Ruby on Rails bumped Go from first place in 2022’s report to fourth this year."
The thing you want to push the MOST as a CEO or Founder is PURPOSE. Why your team are doing what they do is way more important than day to day targets and goals and management.
Get the purpose understood and let your team get on with it :)

So, serious question, how is it people on flights still think it’s ok to play videos with no headphones and jank up the volume to make sure they can hear it?
@elonmusk
just market twitter blue as $8 + 30% platform fee and price it at $11.43 per month if purchased through the app or $8 for a web only version. Problem solved.

Got on the phone, got angry and they provided a "once off courtesy credit" because the small print says your "monthly plan" is an "annual committment" so actually it's not a monthly plan, it's an annual plan paid monthly.
@rbates
Fat mixins are bad. Useful mixins should have a clearly defined purpose and be small and named well. Large mixins that just collect methods is a smell of a missing parent class.

Good question, it was a lot of work to do and keep running by reinteractive. We did it for many many years. I'd say just general online resources, youtube, blogs etc.
2 months ago, I live-tweeted an incredible event. The sun blasted a stream of plasma hundreds of thousands of miles into space. Here's a 4k image of my capture from that event, revealing all the solar details. I formatted it like this so you could use it as a desktop wallpaper.
From a purely business view, this makes sense. If you are in a car headed for a cliff, you have to turn the wheel drastically or slam on the brakes. Doing what was being done previously is just a road to driving off the cliff

Big business has created a playing field within which only they can win. SMBs need to lean into their

super power and build relationships. More expensive, but defensible.
Amazon Prime has ruined customer expectations. Not every business can turn orders in 12 minutes and deliver same day.
You can put every detail in product description, policy pages, emails, etc… and customers still don’t read it.
Hope that changes in 2024. A man can dream…
