@HitDaWallAgain @DianeSwonk I doubt it. This is the same lie that opponents said when Bukele arrested all the gang members in El Salvador. They’re spending in the economy and bribes had a positive economic benefit that would cause recession when he locked them all up Total fiction

@HitDaWallAgain @DianeSwonk Bad things should be stopped immediately because they’re bad. You don’t gradually stop taking poison. You stop immediately. There are second and third order consequences to wasteful spending that aren’t capture in simplistic Keynesian economic models.

This is the problem with Keynesian thinking it implicitly believes all spending is equal in quality and value. Wasteful government spending is a net negative to the economy Anyone with common sense sees that but economists were lobotomized by Keynes bs theories Ignore these fools
When I was in school working on the Michigan Model - a large model of the US economy - many decades ago, I did an experiment. I zeroed out a one large aspect government spending I thought was wasteful. I then felt like I was punched in the gut by the rapid surge in unemployment & collateral damage such an abrupt change meant for the whole economy. That doesn’t mean there isn’t government waste - there is, notably where there is less competitive bidding. It is just a cautionary tale on how mindful we need to be when thinking about what to cut, how rapidly and what to tax. I have been a deficit hawk my whole career but always advocated gradualism, as that lesson stuck with me. Ideaolgy does not make for optimal economic outcomes.

@hussmanjp And universities can pay for the labs themselves. Which they’ll be perfectly willing to do for good research. Problem solved

Please tell me @doge this isn’t true.
. @RepTimBurchett says 40 million dollars a week of taxpayer money is somehow still going to the Taliban every week. In a Breitbart exclusive, he stated that they were told that somehow, despite the freeze on foreign aide, the Taliban is still getting its 40 million dollar weekly payment. Seriously WTF is wrong with our government.
