Mayo Clinic fellow Dr. Paola Suarez-Meade crafted a career combining both of her passions: research and patient care. Her work is already guiding other scientists-in-training.

Human GBM cells migrating in the human brain 🧠 check out our latest contribution to the literature at
@JNeurooncol
, where we demonstrate the GBM migration dynamics and interaction with relevant ECM & microenvironment in a human organotypic model. This will allow us to study GBM
Today at dinner my brother asked how many years do I have left to become a fully trained neurosurgeon as an IMG. I said “about 12-14 years”...he looked at me and said...”I see...but who’s counting?”
Can we give him a medal for being the best older brother in the 🌎 ?
It’s been a week! I rarely post about my personal life but this one is worth it. My best friend agreed to spend the rest of our lives together
Thank you
@paosmeade
for your unconditional love and support. I can’t wait for all the laughs, stories and adventures by your side
Sad to write that my

Every failed experiment is just one step closer to success….It doesn’t matter how many foul balls you have, just focus on the home runs!
After 65 tries and a global pandemic that pushed it back for several months, I got the first couple experiments of my project right!! 🥺🤩🙌🏻
Meet our first featured Mayo Clinic women in neurosurgery,

! To be able to study brain cancer with an amazing team and to have the best mentors on 🌎! Extremely thankful with
@DoctorQMd
and the Nsgy Dept for all the support!! To many more discoveries!
You never know what you’re gonna find under the microscope 🔬 I will never get tired of GBM’s celular morphology.

Here you’re looking at a GFP+ cell from a patient-derived GBM primary culture. Nothing too crazy, but I wanted to share 🤩
@DoctorQMd
came running straight from the OR to lab to see our experiment. Very exciting things happening
@DoctorQMDLab

Love our collaboration with
@tae_hwang
&
@TwitterlessJean
, who help us collide brain cancer research with computer science and AI. So Exciting!!

In my ER rotation a patient with a backpack came in, showed me his finger, and said: “A snake bit me”. I proceeded to take his H&P and asked how did the snake looked like? He said: “oh wait a sec” opened his backpack and gave this to me...I screamed when I first saw it.
Walking to the convention center I reached into my pocket just to find one of

@DoctorQMd
for being an amazing mentor.
If I’m on Zoom at home, there is a 100% chance that Khanny is around. I’m pretty sure that she knows a lot more about medicine than I do at this point 😂.

My lab student (Biology Major) has Micro classes this semester and she had a practical test today that apparently went great.
Me: “do you think that working at lab with us has helped you with school?”
She answered: “Oh yeah, definitely”
🥺😭

If cancer was a person, how would you describe him/her?
A low-quality picture taken with my phone of a glioblastoma sphere that I’m growing at lab 🔬 thought you might like looking at it as much as I do!
For all the lost lives, the patients & the people that can’t get it themselves. So excited and grateful to be able to get my first dose of the Moderna vaccine against COVID. Hopeful for the future and so proud of medicine & science for fighting this virus. Stay safe 🙏🏻
It is amazing to work at a place where you feel extremely appreciated. Christmas gift from the Neurosurgery Department at Mayo and from the boss
