Had 61 patients on my screen to triage this am. Receptionist sent message asking me to prioritise one “he said it wasn’t urgent,but something not quite right”. Probably saved his life. GP reception staff are amazing.

We took the plunge and scrapped total triage 2 weeks ago. The relief is immense for GPs, receptionists and, from what I’ve heard so far, patients. Can choose F2F or phone. Access via E-consult, phone or walk in. Also gone to 15 min appointments.
Back to the job I love.

Have the Dept Health actually spoke to GPs/ practices before announcing things that won’t work? We moved to cloud based telephony system. We offer prebook appts 2 wks ahead (till they’ve gone) and same day urgent access with “care navigation” - still totally overwhelmed.

I know it’s “just a job”, I shouldn’t take it so personally, and things are incredibly tough for people who are unwell at the moment, but when I see our practice getting slated on Facebook, it really makes me want to just walk away.

On the radio “GPs receive £150 a year for every patient, EVEN if they don’t visit the surgery”......Yes but we also receive £150 even if they attend 50 times in a year. We don’t deliberately hide patients to make a quick £150 🙄

The reason we can’t “pause” everything to do all the boosters is that there are A LOT of sick patients right now in primary care and someone has to see them. (Contrary to popular belief, we are seeing them). So far we are up to patient number 101 on our on call list today.

I believe in the importance of continuity. But to pledge “Your preferred choice of GP for each appointment” is ridiculous! I’ve been at my practice 20 years - what if 100 people on a Monday request to see me that day as their preferred GP. How can that be guaranteed?
Labour will make sure you can see your GP quicker and in person.

This is not affordable for many people but the work will be increasingly popular for burnt out GPs fed up with abuse.

We CAN’T see as many as we used to.
Our waiting rooms aren’t big enough,we have to change PPE and wipe rooms down.
We have Drs self isolating/off sick/ working in hot hubs.
We’re trying our best to get the balance of F2F/remote.Support would be better than threats.

I’m off work for 6 weeks (recovering from surgery), and in the first 3 days of being off we’re having a new contract imposed, have to open weekends and now GP partnerships being scrapped. What’s going to happen in the rest of the 5 1/2 weeks?! 😱😨🤯

At one point last week, my colleagues at the practice had 3 patients on oxygen waiting for urgent ambulances. We are not a large practice and our nurses were worried we would run out of oxygen.
We’re now discussing increasing our oxygen supplies ready for winter.

Today I heard about “COVID Vagina” (acute genital ulcers associated with COVID19) and honestly that in itself should be an incentive to get the vaccine and mask up 🥺

Patients are still unhappy, still waiting months for hospital appts, still sitting hours for ambulances.
This is not the big solution.

I posted on practice FB page about the death of a former GP, retired in 2004(17 years ago). So many patients commented and remember him well-from their childhood,or as adults. I hope we can retain primary care as part of communities and keep continuity alive through the reforms.

This is incredibly sad and worrying. I’m lucky that I still enjoy being a GP, mainly due to my colleagues, and the patients I’ve known for 20 years. But trying to stay positive is increasingly hard with the job becoming unmanageable and so many leaving the profession.
