Dear Society,
Please stop with the crisp packet sleeping bag thing and start fighting inequality.
Thank you,
Your friendly neighbourhood Museum of Homelessness.
We are deeply sad & angry to share findings from our investigation into the deaths of people experiencing homelessness in 2022.
We lost 1313 people, so many needless deaths and so young. 🕯️💔

If you have a hidden phone make sure it is switched off next Sunday when an emergency alert will be tested by the government.
If you work with vulnerable people please let them know to expect it.
We are VERY concerned that during our street outreach we are encountering people being stigmatising or abusive to people sleeping rough.
PLEASE STOP THIS. 💔

Hey UK museums & white museum people:
PLEASE dont just put a call out for placards to add 2 your collection after this.
Do something now.
Fight the racism that exists in your institution. (It does, promise)
Listen, learn & take real action on racism inside & out of the museum
We are devastated regarding reports of people in our community who died in the freezing temps last week.
People freezing to death should be a national scandal.
We are investigating these deaths as part of our ongoing work.

Recently someone called MoH a 'fighting museum'
Born in 2015, we've had to be.
We will continue to be.
We will fight hate, prejudice, stigma and we will fight policies that kill.
And with our friends and community we will make places where people are safe and feel loved.
Good morning let's bust a myth
"Homelessness could happen to anyone"
Well technically, yes, but the evidence clearly shows that poverty and in particular, child poverty, is by far the biggest indicator of homelessness.
This crisis is structural.
Please remember people who are street homeless in January, February & March.
❄️ We see massive activity on the streets in December with literally *piles* of stuff. It would be great if some of that energy and resources could be kept to the deepest depths of winter. ❄️

We could not be happier 😭❤️🔥
Wouldnt it be wonderful if a 'world class city' was measured on how it feeds and houses it's citizens.
Pals, we dream of a society like that. In the meantime, we have a 6 million quid 'mound' plonked in town whilst people are told 'we cant help you' 💔
We are deeply upset about these recent incidents of people experiencing homelessness - and their dogs - being killed.
We are urgently calling for compassion towards our community.
These levels of aggression and violence are awful.
Morning! 📢 We are seeking a building. Can you help?
We are urgently seeking a building of our own so we can:

Under this government we have documented an 85% increase in deaths of people experiencing homelessness since 2019.
These are largely preventable deaths.

The Dying Homeless Coalition calls for unconditional, safe shelter for people experiencing homelessness until at least the end of this lockdown. We also call for funding for local authorities to support this. Preventable deaths are inevitable if this does not happen.
#EveryoneIn2
We are bucking this trend just by existing.
MoH has about 15 people working for the museum now.
We are all on the same pay, the national average wage for museums £34,800 FTE.
Why employ from our community? Because we have a lot of talent 🔥

Good morning. Some thoughts as we begin our day:
Please do not say or write 'the homeless.' Think about the person.
Fight the MANY current structural causes of homelessness rather than thinking people made 'bad choices.'
Remember that addiction = trauma.

Can we talk about palming off old, smelly, torn, broken, useless stuff you don't want on people who are homeless or poor?
Here's a rule of thumb: if you wouldn't want to receive it yourself, don't donate it.
Homelessness organisations are not recycling bins. Or bins either.
Should museums have a stance or take action on social issues?
Museums have staff, volunteers and audiences. Last time we checked these were humans, with rights that are being swiftly removed.
The question should be, how could museums stand back and allow all this to happen.
Today the community gathered in a packed

Thank you to all who came and all who made the service happen.
Every time we put a plan together, the goalposts shift.

We are receiving many reports of deaths this week 💔

"Why do people always ask how it felt to rejoin society? I never f*cking left!" -

A friendly Friday reminder that people who are homeless are already part of society. 😊
We keep hearing about schemes to help people 'rejoin society' & its driving us nuts!
Faraz Tahir who was killed challenging Joel Cauchi at Bondi was a Muslim refugee fleeing persecution in Pakistan.
Yet journalists and politicians immediately used the tragedy to stir up hatred against Muslims.
Deep, deep shame on these people.
We see you.
