1/N Happy #FPGAFriday! I just wanted to give a quick description of why this is different than previous designs. None of my previous GPUs were designed to be practically useable. I hardcoded vertices/shaders/texels in a BRAM to test rasterization/texcache/and shaders. They were…

@bdjoetsu I’m so sorry you had to go through that! Did someone at Yodobashi recommend it to you? Because you always have to be careful with おすすめバチ

@tom_forsyth Oh I get that it’s not always easy/doable, but as someone who spent much of the last three years working out if various single cycle stalls are expected, a HW understanding miss, or something else, you can usually get pretty far using HW docs, perf counters, and simulation

RT @JBrooksBSI: @okonomiyonda @falconerd PS2 VU's were great! I used EE + VU0 + VU1 in triple-core lockstep for fast vertex transform/cull/…

@MrJayLC @SebAaltonen Just saying, FPS is the second worst way to profile, with only “feelings” being worse

@slembcke Yeah, what the hell, why did you stop posting these? I need to know more of Tigger’s excellent lifestyle

@ChuckCharless True, it’s not always easy, but if you are clever/lucky, it’s often possible to work backwards from the ASM and work out how you got there

@tom_forsyth Agree, however I like to reason about how many clocks a shader should take. You can usually get very close if you know the various FIFOs that can fill and exert backpressure. Once that matches you can do a second pass to look at the effect of instruction sequences on power/clock!

@regancarver An excellent point. But just to be clear, I was mainly talking about profiling. When profiling, judging if a change is faster just by feel is a Very Bad Idea. GPU clocks gives you the best feedback in many situations, although modern power management makes things more fun :)

@ObsoleteSony Hypothesis: I sit next to someone called Inoue-san that has the same birthday as Inoue Toro. I’m beginning to wonder if he’s the real life inspiration :)

@ModernVintageG @godfree Sure, but I’d argue not just for playing games, but for gamedev as well. Although PS2 would also be an equally strong contender there

@RaraSensei You are a terrible person! Why would you prioritize the literal survival of a total stranger over the stock portfolio of your own father </sarcasm>
