@echinoblog 90m depths in the Gulf of St Lawrence. We have two known basket star species in the area, I haven't gotten around to checking the guide book yet for which one it might be.

@echinoblog Interesting! I have some more basket star photos from this trip, I was planning to tweet another one out today. I'll be sure to include a correction for the faulty quiz.

@echinoblog Common names for groups are a hot mess. I've often heard sea star as an umbrella term for ophiuroids and asteroids, even though I know what you're referring to is sea stars specifically being Asteroidea

The water today has been so calm, which allowed us to capture some excellent video footage. We've seen skates, sculpins, snow crabs, shrimp, worms, sea pens, and lots of sponges on our drop camera, and we haven't even looked at the baited camera footage yet!

Day 1 in the Gulf of St Lawrence deploying a drop camera to look for sponges at conservation sites! I'll be at sea for 2 weeks collecting approximately 25 hours of video to assess the community ecology of sponge gardens.

@sawsharkman I shouldn't laugh because that probably hurt, but I find it so funny that his friend very calmly and casually says "it stung you?" after the dude has already been screaming in pain and clutching his hand for several seconds
