Few seem to know that the law requires users of these emergency lay-by to use the phone there to contact motorway control when ready to resume onward travel. Control will then put the ‘Red X‘ on Lane 1 so as to avoid the dangerous situation which you describe.

- Numerous local coach operators hired in by bus companies to supplement the reduced capacity available on school-time buses

Nu-Venture were delighted to support Metroline’s charity open day at Potters Bar on 28 July, in a repeat of our July 2017 visit.
This year, one of our once-Metroline buses operated three return trips between Potters Bar and Hatfield Station, shown here.

In order to properly serve all the villages in the West Malling hinterland, buses need to U-turn in safety at the High Street stops, as well as to draw right in to the kerbside there for the benefit of less-ambulant users.

Sorry for any confusion but the ‘connecting’ stop for the onward (westbound) 58 is not the one photographed (which we call Sainsbury’s) but the next stop west (described in the timetable as South Aylesford Retail Park, Homebase) where there is more space for buses to pull in/wait
