@cnbcKaren BYD is now outselling Tesla in the UK, Spain and Portugal. Be interesting to see how the addition of "God's Eye" advanced self-driving features across their range affects sales. 🫤

@cnbckaren Re open source AI ... what you can do with open source software depends on the licence it is released under and the rights it grants. For instance the GNU General Public License(Linux) is more restrictive than the BSD licence. 🤔

@cnbcKaren FT reports ... Chinese car firm BYD, Tesla’s biggest rival, plans to install its "God's Eye" advanced self-driving system on its entire model line-up including the $9,600 Seagull budget hatchback.🤔

@cnbcKaren Development costs continue to fall ... AI researchers at Stanford and the University of Washington developed an AI reasoning model, called s1, for under $50. The s1 model rivals leading models like OpenAI and DeepSeek in maths/coding abilities.😐

@cnbcKaren I think I remember the digital film set at Mobile World Congress, weren't you being chased by a giant dinosaur? Quite realistic.😀🦖

@cnbcKaren Apparently the average cost of a new EV(2024) in the UK is £46,000, with the cheapest at £26,500 and luxury models at £69,000. In contrast, a new car in the UK costs between £19,000 and £32,000 on average. Discounts are definitely required for widespread adoption!🫤

@cnbcKaren The largest medical AI trial, involving over 100,000 women in mammography screening, was published recently in The Lancet. AI use led to 29% higher cancer detection, no increase in false positives, and reduced radiologists' workload. 😐
The largest medical #AI randomized controlled trial yet performed, enrolling >100,000 women undergoing mammography screening, was published today @LancetDigitalH The use of A.I. led to 29% higher detection of cancer, no increase of false positives, and reduced workload compared with radiologists without A.I..

@kathylienfx Regarding Mexico ... is this history repeating itself? 😐
On May 30, 2019, Trump announced plans to invoke IEEPA to impose emergency tariffs on Mexico beginning June 10. The tariffs would start at 5% and go up every month to a maximum of 25%. On June 7, 2019, he announced the tariffs would be suspended.

@cnbcKaren Apparently DeepSeek can now be run on Chinese Huawei Ascend 910B chips for about 5%(!) of the price of OpenAI's API. The U.S. export controls don't seem to be working out that well ... successful Chinese models running on domestic chips! 😐
This 👇 has drawn little attention but it's extremely significant: Deepseek can be run for just as cheap as initially announced (i.e. about 5% of the price of OpenAI's API) on Huawei Ascend 910B chips, which are Huawei's answer to NVIDIA's A100 AI chips. The whole rationale of the U.S. export controls was the assumption that China couldn't do top-of-the-range AI without western chips but it's obviously not the case anymore: it can run leading AI models on domestic chips for much cheaper than leading U.S. AI firms can run their own models on their own chips.

@cnbcipr @cnbcKaren @ecb @Lagarde @CNBCi Good interview, I keep forgetting how long Lagarde has been president of the ECB - her term is set to end on October 31, 2027 which is not that far away. 🙂

@CNBCJulianna @JimReid35 Scott Bessent had a different opinion on tariffs a year ago ... 😐
One year ago (almost to the day), Scott Bessent wrote to his investors: “Tariffs are inflationary and would strengthen the dollar—hardly a good starting point for a US industrial renaissance.” “The tariff gun will always be loaded and on the table but rarely discharged.”

@kathylienfx This market volatility is reminding me of Trump's first term, it's going to be a long four years. 🫤

@cnbcKaren On Reddit yesterday Sam Altman said OpenAI had been on the wrong side of history regarding its approach to open source ... 🤨
Sam Altman: "we have been on the wrong side of history" with regards to open source/open weights AI models

@ronitA380 @JoumannaTV @business Would you really trust an AI agent to select your holiday and actually book it without human intervention? I certainly wouldn't.🫤

@cnbcKaren Re iPhone discussion this morning ...perfectly good low end Android phones are around a couple of hundred pounds, spending a £1000 on an iPhone is very much a luxury purchase for people on an average income.🫤

@AnnBerry_NYC @brewmarkets Guess it all depends whether you think self-driving requires LiDAR? Waymo says yes, Musk says no.🤔
