Is this the same Jay Slater they are looking for in Tenerife?
Who's still on an 18 month community order for a violent attack against a teenager with golf clubs, machetes and an axe?
That top middle picture looks exactly like him.
A popular walk in Symi is to the Life Giving Fountain Monastery, which is an easy road walk.
Attempting it from the Kamares cafe (where Dr Michael Mosley was alledgedly last spotted) is difficult.
Here is some of my roughly edited footage above Pedi beach showing the terrain
Dr Michael Mosley was last seen at the Blue Corner cafe in Pedi bay.
From there did he walk the main road (past the football stadium) back to Symi town? Surely he would have been spotted on the main road?
Or might he have taken one of the remote village paths though the trees?
@Elizab_Mitchell
Yes, this is the path they said he took. It's in view of boats, restaurants, apartments on the other side.
Seems impossible he disappeared on this path.
I'm just saying he could have gone up into the mountains for a walk and fallen there - it's much more out of the way.
@seot74
I definitely think heat is a factor.
I believe they arrived on Symi on Tuesday and he went missing on Wednesday.
It's hard to get adjusted to a +20 degree jump up in temperature, especially when you are older.
@Earthdecay
@lumberjilly
The temperature in the UK is around 17-18 ish right now.
Supposedly it was 38 degrees on the day he disappeared.
If they recently arrived in Symi, that's a +20 degree jump up in temperature.
That can be hard to deal with / adjust to, especially is you are older.
The other day a German Navy vessel's Commander decided to play the Imperial March from Star Wars as the boat passed up the Thames in London 😂
Someone on the HMS Belfast was probably scrambling to find the keys for the gun turret but a little too late 🤣
@gbPizzaCo
I do feel like the temperature difference between the UK (about 18 degrees) and his first day in Symi (38 degrees) is a big factor in all this. +20 degrees is a lot to handle if you are older.
1/4 The red line is the footpath from last CCTV sighting of Dr Michael Mosley to Agia Marina, where he could get the water taxi back to Symi town.
You walk in a straight line from the harbour, then veer right.
Following this path, you walk up the hill maximum 60m elevation...
@Redredred80
I totally agree. It seems impossible he disappeared on the footpath from Saint Nikolas Beach to Pedi beach. It's a straight footpath. The only thing that could have happened is he fell in the water.
But as you say, they would have found him by now if he was in the water
The latest CCTV footage from the BBC shows Dr Michael Mosley walking in the direction of Agia Marina beach.
Agia Marina beach is a stop for the taxi boat that would take him back to Symi town.
Did he divert from the footpath or get lost before he made it to Agia Marina beach?
@karenbw99
That's my thinking.
If he took the main road, there are lots of houses - someone is sure to remember a man walking with an umbrella on a sweltering hot day.
But if he took a shortcut on one of these old village paths, no one might have seen him 🤷🏻♂️
RIP Dr Michael Mosley.
His body was discovered today, just outside the wall of the Agia Marina beach - about 40 metres away from the pier where the water taxi stops, that could have taken him back to Symi town.
A terrible tragedy, my condolences to his family and friends.
@sandalsonfeet
I'm not actually there, this was filmed a while back.
I'm just showing a potential route he could have taken which I think would be worth searching.
@ChristineW7
I agree. But he was alledgedly last seen at the Kamares Cafe on Pedi beach, then disappeared.
So if he decided to walk into the mountain behind Pedi beach to see the old farming terraces, the pond or the monastery, you can see the terrain is rough and easy to have an accident.
@Nicolai3697
It's not even a forest - it's trees sparslely spread out over fields.
(right to left) You've got Pedi beach, the football stadium and then you have the outskirts of Symi town & the harbour.
There are some old village paths and house, but it's not a forest you could get lost in.
@mwilliamsthomas
When asked about the bus, airbnb lady indicated to Jay 10 fingers to mean the next bus was at 10am and Jay took it to mean every 10 minutes.
If Jay believed there was a bus every 10 minutes, even more strange he started walking.
@RainbowKate
That was the point - to show people the terrain around where he was last seen.
He didn't disappear walking on the main road back to Symi town, he must have gone off the beaten track somewhere around Pedi bay.
@PebblesSkip
He got to Pedi beach and disappeared.
Could he have walked into the mountain, thinking he was on the road back to Symi? It's possible in the heat.
If you look at my latest tweet, it's possible he might have taken a shortcut path through the area with trees, not the main road.
In a very unexpected turn, it seems there is a network of caves at Agia Marina - the location Dr Michael Mosley was last seen walking towards.
Because of how dangerous they are, the locals call them "The Abyss".
Did Dr Mosley walk there to explore these caves?
from Guardian:
@Redredred80
The thing is, the footpath mostly follows the edge of the water. To take shelter he'd have to climb quite a way up the hill.
And as far as I've read, he made it to Pedi beach and was seen at the Kamares cafe.
So it's a question of where he went after the cafe 🤷🏻♂️
@Saltpeanuts7
That's what it seems like.
He was seen at the Blue Corner cafe - where the water taxi's are. Doesn't seem like he got one.
He was seen near the bus stop - doesn't seem like he took one.
Probably because there are not many per day.
So most likely he decided to walk
@TomasOMahony
He made it back to Pedi bay.
CCTV shows he was last seen at the Blue Corner cafe, which is right in front of the pier where the water taxi's take you back around to Symi town.
And also, from there is the main road to walk back to Symi town (past the football stadium).
@Sestra_1000
@karenbw99
This is what they are saying now.
But it seems hard to believe if he was feeling ill earlier he would head off walking over a barren mountain with no clear footpath for a multi-hour walk 🤷🏻♂️
I posted this yesterday, which shows the spot where Dr Mosley was last spotted on CCTV.
And the path from there to Agia Marina beach, where the water taxi stops.
The blue circle is roughly where he was found today.
It's incredibly sad how close he was to the water taxi stop
@MiaMaureen
I don't think there are wild animals. Well, there are snakes.
Maybe he got lost.
Or took some shade behind a wall and passed out.
If it was a hot day, I'd take a path through trees rather than an open road that is exposed to the sun.
4/4 I believe Dr Michael Mosley took what he thought was the right path to Agia Marina - going in a straight line (blue on my map).
But ended up going much higher into the mountains (+ 40metres elevation) than he needed to and used up a lot more energy in the stifling heat 😔
@TimesRadio
"...their speculation is that he left his wife back on the beach, got to the Village and thought why don't I just have a little extra walk, why don't I just carry on a bit further. And that would be within his character - a man who likes to explore" 2/2
A bit like myself
@deburs
He was on holiday! He probably wanted a nice quiet afternoon on the beach.
He probably didn't want anyone from work calling him and have work related calls on a beach when he was supposed to be relaxing.
It's nice not to check twitter every day 😄
It seems the Mayor of Symi was optimisitic - given the size of the area they are searching - they might conclude the search for Dr Michael Mosley today.
But as it's now 9pm in Symi and they have not found anything, the search will continue tomorrow
@notlostfilms
@Saltpeanuts7
He was confident in search operation relative to size of area Mosley went missing. But disappointed operation didn’t lead anywhere today
@Elizab_Mitchell
Exactly. If he fell down there, he's be easily found.
See all the boats and restaurants in Pedi bay can see down a lot of the path.
Interesting they are starting to move the search up into the mountain, it does seem like the next most likely place to search, as I thought.
@msm_skeptic
I think they are fairly certain he made it back to Pedi bay along that path.
But then where?
I saw some news saying he took the main road back to Symi town past the football stadium.
But that would be even more of a mystery because it's a main road & there are lot's of houses
@guardiacivil
Much respect to
#GREIM
for bringing closure for Jay Slater's family.
Not enough gratitude has been shown for the efforts of Guardia Civil &
#GREIM
in this case.
I hope the family and public will now appreciate your hard work in such difficult & dangerous terrain.
@juicetin1971
Probably not. They have focused on Pedi bay and the path along it.
This path goes all the way from Pedi bay up to Symi village, where the museum is. It's a couple of kilometres.
@FoolOfLondon
@Telegraph
I did see that. It's hard to believe he felt ill, had done two walks along both sides of Pedi bay in the heat and then most likely very tired decided to walk up a barren hill with no path and walk over it back to Symi town.
It doesn't make sense to me 🤷🏻♂️
@blakesmadi
@MiaMaureen
They are suggesting he went to Agia Marina and then decided to walk over that mountain back to Symi town, which is a path I doubt anyone takes, especially when it's 38 degrees!
It doesn't really add up with the story he was feeling ill to trek for 2 hours over a barren mountain
From a
@TimesRadio
interview I heard earlier the person said:
"The local authorities have spoken to Dr Mosley's children they said they described him as an adventurer they said he did like to sort of go "off piste"... 1/2
@mwilliamsthomas
So if Lucy had Ayub's phone number to call him and says Jay was in a ditch, she clearly knew Jay was with Ayub.
So if Jay said he had nowhere to stay outside the club, surely Ayub knew that was not true, that he was staying in Los Cristianos with Lucy?
The need to quickly fill the gaps in the defensive walls around the power plant and Blue Lagoon in Iceland has lead to crazy scenes like this one today 👀
The hot lava is RAPIDLY flowing past the workers a very short distance away 🤯
Crazy stuff, brave workmen
#IcelandVolcano
@jessdrake32
He was last seen at the Blue Corner cafe in Pedi bay, right next to where the water taxi's leave to take you back around to Symi town.
He might simply have been asking someone if they knew what time the next boat was due.
@MarieAntoine55
No, thankfully didn't encounter any snakes when I was on Symi!
But Symi does have venomous snakes, if you google "symi snakes" it'll tell you the name.
@fiorifan
@Redredred80
You could disappear into a small outback town easily enough. But you wouldn't stay hidden long on a small greek island.
I'm gonna steer clear of the conspiracy theories, I'm sure the answer ultimately is more to do with the heat and him being in his 60's and not feeling well 🤷🏻♂️
@Earthdecay
@lumberjilly
The temperature in the UK is around 17-18 ish right now.
Supposedly it was 38 degrees on the day he disappeared.
If they recently arrived in Symi, that's a +20 degree jump up in temperature.
That can be hard to deal with / adjust to, especially is you are older.
@PebblesSkip
Very annoying they got stuck on the narrative he tried to go over the top & walk down the other side.
Any rational person would see he was going to Agia Marina for the water taxi & should have focused search in that area.
How did they not start at Agia Marina & work backwards??
@breckshit
I read a news article saying they have new CCTV footage which shows Dr Mosley
"gingerly picking his way down a slope close to a fence then falling out of view at 3.44pm last Wednesday"
So it took him 1 3/4 hours, which seems about right when you compensate for how hot it was.
(4/4)
So:
1) if he took the route Apple Maps suggest, an accident happened before he got to this bus stop south of Erjos.
2) Or he got here and took a bus.
3) Otherwise he continued down Barranco Juan Lopez, which was his last known location and had an accident.
#jayslater
Workmen in Iceland building a wall to divert lava from flooding into the town of Grindavik is surreal to watch.
They are about 50 metres/yards away from the advancing lava.
And they've been working non stop since early this morning 🙏🏻
@duffett_claire
@deburs
I agree - safety first.
But people forget all they were doing is going to a quiet beach for a few hours and then getting a taxi boat back later.
And they were a group of 4 people. I'm sure some of them had a phone. Prob no one expected him to go off on his own.
(1/4)
Here's the route Apple Maps suggests to walk Masca to Los Cristianos as a hiking trail.
Mostly the same route I suggested on 27th.
The route crosses the MAIN ROAD south of Erjos.
Goes PAST a BUS STOP with a BUS DIRECT TO COSTA ADEJE! And a restautant!
cont'd
#jayslater
@PebblesSkip
No problem. I had that issue with the news too.
They said he went off on a 3 hour hike into the mountains? Where would that be?
Most likely he went towards Agia Marina beach to catch the taxi boat at 4pm.
From Pedi bay to there... maybe an hour ish to walk? Not 3 hours.
I'm going to add this here because people keep asking about the taxi boat.
Yes - it does stop at all tourist beaches. And it also stops at Pedi & Symi town
It stops at Agia Marina & St Nicholas Beach, where Dr Mosley's left his wife to go for a walk on that day.
@JohnDra93154435
@MiaMaureen
Maybe. But still, he was in 18 degree weather in the UK, then he was in 38 degree weather in Greece. And he is in his 60's. It would still be stifling even with a hat and umbrella.
We don't know if he's been to this island before, whether he had used these shortcuts path before
3/4 That is actually a more difficult route & you end up climbing much higher - up to a 100m elevation.
Much more effort on a hot day.
You also have to climb down a much steeper hill to get to Agia Marina beach on the other side - much more effort required.
(3/4)
He was far enough away from the airbnb (if those people scared him away as the investigator suggests) to wait at this bus stop.
There are buses at 10:27am & 12:17pm.
If he left the airbnb at 8am, surely he would have made it here by one of those times?
cont'd
#jayslater
2/4 The wider lines are apart on a contour map, the flatter the land is.
Look at the contours, you can see if you continue in a *straight* line from the harbour (which I've drawn in blue) it looks nice and flat - very appealing to walk!
But...
@blakesmadi
@MiaMaureen
They are suggesting he went to Agia Marina and then decided to walk over that mountain back to Symi town, which is a path I doubt anyone takes, especially when it's 38 degrees!
It doesn't really add up with the story he was feeling ill to trek for 2 hours over a barren mountain
@Redredred80
I'm not on site! This was filmed a while ago.
I'm showing a potential route he could have taken which I think would be worth searching.
I think it's possible he took a wrong turn, went upwards into the mountain or a remote path. How else could he disappear in broad daylight 🤷🏻♂️
@aimee_nz_
@PebblesSkip
The news is confusing on this point.
They were suggesting he took a 3 hour hike and tried to make his way back to Symi over that hill.
But who would try to climb a barren hill on a day it's 38 degrees?
I think he was heading to Agia Marina beach to get the water taxi at 4pm
@rjd_ds
I agree.
But the Greeks don't like putting signposts everywhere, it kind of spoils the nature. I sort of agree with them too!
But probably one little "beach/taverna this way" sign at that right turn that people seem to miss might not be a bad idea given what's happened.
The Spanish police have posted a video showing the steep and dangerous ravine where they found Jay Slater's body 😔
It's near vertical in most areas, overgrown and treacherous.
#RIPJay
#jayslater
(2/4)
In my opition - NO WAY Jay Slater walked beyond this point (if he just walked 6-7 km's though the mountains to get here without any water).
This is a busy road. He could have thumbed a lift or flagged a car down and asked for help.
cont'd
#jayslater
@aimee_nz_
@PebblesSkip
I would say the path from St Nikolas Beach to Pedi is much busier and a bit more pleasant because it's next to the water.
This path is a steep-ish climb into a barren hillside and you are quite far away from the water. So not as appealing to walk.
The wall they built to protect the Blue Lagoon and power plant near Grindavik in Iceland is enormous!
Look at the size of the buses in the 2nd photo to get an idea how high it is!!
I think they've done a very good job as long as they can fill the gaps before the lava arrives 👏🏻
@doktorgoogle
I hope so too.
It's very strange how he could disappear on a path that's busy and in plain sight of restaurants, apartments etc.
So I feel like maybe he walked into the mountains where it's more remote.
It's hard to explain how else he could just disappear?
Two stills from drone footage posted by Iceland Explorer on yt.
First one is looking east directly at the eruption - incredible!🤯
Second one looking west to power plant and Blue Lagoon.
Blue line I've added is the wall built to protect.
Red arrow direction lava flow.
Wow
@EHChalus
@msm_skeptic
If he took the main road, surely someone would have seen him?
A older man with an umbrella on a hot day, people would surely have taken notice of him.
I just posted a new tweet - maybe he took one of the village paths through the trees?
@MissHeatherF21
I'm pretty sure he was following the wall of the resort down to the pier where the taxi boats leave.
There is actually a doorway there in the wall he could have walked though onto the pier.
It's just so tragic how close he was to safety 😔
@PebblesSkip
@TimesRadio
No problem.
I'm going to have some films coming out on my youtube channel next year I filmed on Greek Islands (including Symi) and you'll be tired of seeing farming terraces because they are everywhere😁
But important history of how things were in Greek Islands before tourism
(1/4)
Stay with me here.
The other day I put the idea out there that Jay Slater might have tried to walk to Erjos to get the direct 460 bus back to Costa Adeje.
I've hiked in this area a while back. The path I took is the red line in this map...
cont'd
@annahcav
I've have no idea if he'd been to Symi before or used these shortcut paths.
I guess his wife will have told the greek police and they will know whether to search these areas or not 🤷🏻♂️
@EHChalus
@odonnellhugh
Up where the waterhole and the abandoned buildings are, that's exactly where I went!
Rough terrain and the path over the ravine is hard to find. But it's lovely up there.
Youtube have now put ads on many of my videos.
Youtube takes 100% of the money these adverts make, I don't see a penny (because my channel isn't monitised).
So feel free to use an adblocker and skip the ads, as they don't benefit me in any way.
The Horse
#notlostexploring
@broken_ivor
@RainbowKate
It's possible.
But we have not had anyone say they saw him at Agia Marina beach, which has a restaurant there.
So I'm not sure if he ever made it to that beach?
(1/3)
Now they are saying Jay Slater went NORTH from the airbnb, not south.
Which made me think - none of the buses in Masca or Buenavista del Norte go directly to Costa Adeje / Los Cristianos.
BUT there is a 460 bus from Erjos....
cont'd
@kaikouramonkey
On the news yesterday they said they were moving their search to the mountains.
So I presume today they are going to use the drone to look around the mountains near where he was last seen.
There is a trekview footpath in Tenerife that shows up on google maps going from Teno to Masca.
Which might look quicker than the road because it's more direct.
But treacherous steep drops off a narrow path in places 😬
Could Jay Slater have taken this path & had an accident?
@ashawolves
@ashlingplunkett
@gbPizzaCo
That's an interesting idea, maybe he was fasting?
That would not mix well with the stifling heat and needing energy to climb up that hill
@Gail44886918
About a 3 hour hike away from it.
But yeah, the path he was on does go all the way to the sea.
But it seems much more likely now he went off the main path and fell into a ravine very close to his last phone location.
@JulieMo80103746
@mwilliamsthomas
I saw that. He seems to be dealing with things in an organised way, which will probably help to narrow things down.
Just wish the news would check it's facts!
Now they are saying Jay went North, so why are they search the Masca gorge?
They should be searching Monte del Agua
@DrMoragKerr
The path on my maps shows you go in a straight line from the harbour & turn right.
If you look at the contours, you can see if you continue straight (rather than right) it looks nice and flat - very appealing to walk!
But that is the wrong way & you end up climbing much higher.
P.S. My channel is not monitised. So skip the adverts if you want because they were put there by youtube and youtube take 100% of the money these adverts make, I don't see a penny.
@DrMoragKerr
@aimee_nz_
@PebblesSkip
There are venomous snakes on Symi. So he could have been bitten on his way to Agia Marina and maybe that is why he didn't make it 🤷🏻♂️
I guess we'll find out in the coming days
@OorRoy
I think you already had it from the police reports so far - he fell in an inaccessible place and died.
Unless they find his phone and it has more information 🤷🏻♂️
Another volcanic eruption started in Iceland today 🌋
In the same location as the December eruption (not January), north of Grindavik
But this time lava is moving towards the Blue Lagoon & power plant
The Blue Lagoon is so iconic, will be a sad day if it get destroyed by lava
@Tracy45931769
@aleksm72
I totally agree.
That's why it's such a mystery he set off on the walk towards Agia Marina beach, on a barren and exposed footpath in 38 degree heat 🤷🏻♂️
