When Mao wrote about landlords, the original Chinese was 地主, which referred to the feudal lords. He did not mean landlord as in some dude who saved up to buy an apartment unit to rent to college kids. Those are 房東. So yes, 地主 in China were in fact liquidated as a class.

The Tibetan name for Tibet is Bod. Part of the region is called Ü-Tsang in Tibetan, and it's this word that the Chinese name 西藏 Xizang is based off of. 藏 Zang has been used to describe the region and the people there since the Yuan Dynasty, long before there ever was a PRC. .

From the US' perspective, it didn't "fail" in Afghanistan. Making Afghanistan a stable country capable of providing its citizens better lives was never the goal of US imperialism. The US extracted what it could, and now China, Pakistan, and Iran are left with an unstable neighbor.
