Saving the #crucian carp!!! In the Norfolk Ponds Project we champion unloved #ponds & unloved species. The wonderful crucian is THE fish of farm ponds but it has been in steep decline in the wild. Thanks so much to brill @JackPerksPhoto for highlighting our work to help save it

The UK 🇬🇧 has lost around half a million ponds in the last century. Of those that remain - around 80% are thought to be in bad shape. Find out how @norfolkponds and @uclponds are restoring them on our latest #RAZOR episode 👉

Please watch this film called GHOST PONDS & if you get inspired about #pond restoration & #ghostponds tell others. A way of recovering nature quickly. #Farm ponds are still underdogs but hopefully...we are lifting them up:

#GHOSTPONDS!!! The most under-promoted form of #pond conservation, but the *most successful* of them all! This formerly infilled pond, on a pig farm, was not there 2 years ago...look at it! >30 wetland plants & many very rare. Come on everyone!!!

When we restore farm ponds we always throw the kitchen sink at it. But in one pond this autumn we found that someone had already beaten us to it! #pondarchaeology

Colonisation of a ressurected ancient #ghostpingo pond in just 1 year. From 0 to 40 wetland plants in the blink of a frog's eye because of a long-lived #seedbank. Anyone seen any form of ecological restoration more successful than this? @hburningham @tim_holt_wilson @NorfolkWT

@ChilternsNL @Thames_RvrsTrst @NWessexDowns @ARKennet Ideally don't plant anything as tempting as it may seem. In the long-run planting won't be as good as natural plant colonisation. Good to save money. Patience over Packet :)

@LimnoGeek1 @uclponds They (rudd) colonised naturally during a v wet winter which joined this pond to another bigger pond close by.
