Don't hate me but there's nothing wrong in writing characters who don't curse, are kind & quiet. Strength of character comes from speaking up and not shouting, sometimes not getting even, and putting all the rage into cooking a mean biryani instead of yelling obscenities.

As BiPOC I constantly struggle w/ do I whitewash my story coz how will the NWL understand Ammi means mother and chai is not a latte. But when it’s a desi who critiques my story for being too cultural, I have to wonder, why? Do they not see us tryin to be authentic to our stories?

I'm reading a book by a desi non-muslim writer. The male character she wrote is a Muslim in name only. I get that. But in the entire book there is not even an ounce to hint at his roots. I mean it saddens me when writers do this. We're all shades of Muslim, but don't erase our id
