Prince William is now meeting Kamal, a young person who has just won young volunteer of the year. When asked what his ‘secret ingredient’ is by the Prince, Kamal replied: “Love”.
@MENnewsdesk
I am outside Manchester Central Library this morning where
@ClarenceHouse
Duchess of Cornwall is viewing portraits of those who have experienced domestic abuse, which will go on display as part of
@SICKfestival
.
@MENnewsdesk
I am at the Kellog’s factory in Trafford where King Charles is paying a visit to discuss the company’s sustainable packaging and tour the plant. The King has just arrived, and is being greeted by factory director Tim McKnight.

If you’re wondering what brings Meghan, along with Bob Geldof and Lemn Sissay to Manchester this afternoon, this is a summary of what One Young World Manchester is all about.
@MENnewsdesk
Prince William is speaking to families who have sadly lost loved ones to youth violence in Manchester. He is here to see The Royal Foundation’s work with the Manchester Peace Together Alliance, who are close partners with The Hideaway.
@MENnewsdesk
It’s very loud in here so I can’t hear anything that is being said - but King Charles seems deeply engaged in his discussions here at the factory.
@MENnewsdesk
The King is now making his way down to the factory floor to meet workers and hear about how cornflakes, Rice Krispies, coco pops, and more are made here in Trafford. Everyone here is waiting in nervous anticipation…
@MENnewsdesk
Meghan and Harry were in Manchester this evening to address young leaders at the
@OneYoungWorld
summit alongside
@AndyBurnhamGM
,
@lemnsissay
and more. Here’s what Meghan had to say.
@OfficialUoM
Geologist
@seis_matters
was told by Greater Manchester Police that they're refusing to investigate racist letters sent to him because there were no "reasonable lines of enquiry" - despite the letter being signed and an email address provided.
Sitting behind Mary Robinson you can see
@AndyBurnhamGM
, and then Meghan and Harry on the bench next to him. On Burnham’s left is one of the founders of One Young World, Kate, and then Sir Bob Geldof.
@MENnewsdesk
I have to say, it smells delicious here as Kellogg’s employees show King Charles how Kellogg’s cereals can be used as part of healthy development of foods.
@MENnewsdesk
Discussions here have now turned to how Kellogg’s formulate their products to get that ‘sweet spot’ with sweeter cereals, where they are delicious, but not too sugary. “Do you just reduce the sugar until they say yes?” the King jokes.
@MENnewsdesk
Here’s a blast from the past - King Charles has been here before, back in 1974 when he was of course Prince Charles. Oh how times have changed!
@MENnewsdesk
Families here have spoken of their agony after losing loved ones to youth violence. But the conversation has had light hearted moments too, as HRH joked about his darts being better than his pool.
@MENnewsdesk
Excited to say I will be starting a new role
@MENnewsdesk
next week & moving to the reporting team! Working in the audience team has been fab & I've learned so much from them, but I can't wait to get stuck into reporting on everything going on in our exceptional city region 🐝
In some very exciting ✨job news✨ I am delighted to be joining
@MENnewsdesk
next week as a Trainee Engagement Producer, helping them tell stories in new & diverse ways. Very grateful to the MEN for this opportunity to not only work with such a talented team, but also get my 1/2
Beyond happy to say that I have passed my ✨100wpm✨ shorthand exam!! Won’t pretend I didn’t cry a little bit this morning (happy tears). Thank you so so much to
@NewsAssociates
and
@TWMcCooey
, the best shorthand tutor I could’ve ever asked for.
After 22 intense but wonderful weeks
@NewsAssociates
, I'm excited to be returning to
@MENnewsdesk
full-time today! DMs are open, email is in bio, feel free to get in touch with any stories or anything interesting going on in the city 🐝
Just to be clear: me trying to get into a bar in Manchester by myself, not being let in, and writing about it, is NOT an open invitation for men read the byline, search me on Facebook, and send me messages like this.
The canal outside my window is so clear today I can see three traffic cones and a Walls ice cream sign under the water 😍😍 Manchester really is beautiful
The revamp of Great Ancoats Street with no cycle lanes is reprehensible. You could see awful incidents like this one coming a mile off. GAS is almost impossible to avoid if you live in Ancoats/NI - we shouldn't be forcing cyclists to risk their safety.
Had a fabulous time seeing
@alexander_olly
@yearsandyears
at Manchester AO Arena last night. A show that somehow managed to be sexy, emotional, and stunningly visual all at once. Here's my review for
@MENnewsdesk
.
Trains in this country are a joke. I haven’t had a train journey run the way it’s supposed to in a long time - today it’s going to take me 4 changes & 6+ hours to get from Bristol to Manchester. How are people supposed to make the sustainable choice when it’s this unappealing?
I covered
@PeopleUom
’s occupation, which has resulted in the University pledging to review their fossil fuel investments, for
@guardian
. Glad their achievement is getting the attention it deserves; this is a big shift from the biggest University in the UK.
Bit lost for words! Unbelievably honoured to have my name on this list alongside such a hardworking and deserving team of journalists - and so proud to have worked on this investigation with them.
Some post-graduation job news 🌟- I’m really excited to be joining the
@EdvoyGlobal
team in Manchester as a Content Writer and Editor, starting tomorrow! I’ll be writing articles and helping shape content about Higher Education news and student life all over the world 🌍
My lovely Italian neighbour Gianluca spoke to me about what it’s like supporting the OTHER side this weekend… (he also offered me espresso and called me ‘bella’ so I can’t lie, he won me over a bit).
When will Portland Street get better cycle facilities? Nearly got knocked off there this morn by a driver who had stopped way past the cycle box at a red light and tried to turn left after not indicating. It’s not the first time on this road, and it’s terrifying.
@MCCCityCentre
Recently I've seen a certain kind of criticism of certain titles, often centered around what I think is a worrying gatekeeping of what is 'quality' journalism and what isn't. To me, good journalism comes in all shapes and sizes - & isn't necessarily 'high-brow'. 🧵
Summer Kay, head girl here at Bolton School has achieved an incredible 3 A*s and is off to St Andrews to study Economics and Management in September! “I nearly cried when I found out I got in,” she said.
@MENnewsdesk
“All of you have spoken so brilliantly and so confidently,” Andy Burnham says. One young person said the Hideaway was really quick to embrace her and felt like a family.
@MENnewsdesk
In the UK, we are lucky enough to live without fear of landmines. Millions of others are not so fortunate. My account from Iraq, where much of the country lives with the fear that one wrong step could kill.
@MAGsaveslives
@MENnewsdesk
Jack Swires has got into Imperial to do Physics with an amazing set of A*A*A*A* A levels! “It only hit me last night that so much depended on one piece of paper,” he said. Congrats Jack!🎉

A huge number of police, fire, and ambulance vehicles are present with a white tent visible. Firefighters are currently working behind a black screen.
@MENnewsdesk
Ancoats residents say a lack of signage and traffic control in the area’s narrow streets, where cars speed through, means you “take your life into your hands” every time you walk there. They’re terrified someone will get killed before anything gets done.
I had the pleasure of visiting Manchester’s newest urban park this morning, transforming the Castlefield Viaduct that has laid derelict for 50 years into a space for Mancunians to use again. Opens to the public next week - definitely one to add to the to do list!
@nationaltrust
So excited to announce that
@themancunion
won Best Publication at the
@SPAJournalism
Regional Awards! I couldn’t be prouder to be Deputy Editor of this incredible publication and to help lead our immensely creative and talented team 🐝
Great news for the veggie and vegans among us - there are TWO vegan bratwurst stalls at Piccadilly Gardens this year! Vertigo and Panc will be fighting it out for the crown - and I’ll definitely be trying both over the festive season 🎄🌭
@MENnewsdesk
The adorable Aoife, 7, is out with her family (The Sojourners) this evening running NYE street karaoke in Piccadilly Gardens. She just turned 7 this week! Head over if you fancy a sing!
@MENnewsdesk
Manchester Pride…what a weekend. I’m always banging on about what makes MCR special, but the last few days have shown this is an exceptional place full of exceptional people. I will say more after some sleep but for now, my wrap of tonight’s moving vigil.
Suuuper excited to be part of the action covering the best weekend in Manchester for
@MENnewsdesk
for the second year running! I’ll be out and about in the village all weekend bringing you the best of
@ManchesterPride
. Bring it on! 🏳️🌈🌈🏳️⚧️✨
Residents are drinking tea while watching the funeral, in a distinctly British way to mark the sad occasion. One of them, Manny, cheers’ the Queen before he drinks.
@MENnewsdesk
A yellow card is a small price to pay for showing some fucking principles. The armband itself was a joke, but this just makes a mockery of everything we say we stand for and believe in. Shameful.
Here
@themancunion
we finished our 20th and final print of the year on Friday. This paper has been my family for 3 years & whilst endings are bittersweet, I’m so proud. It has been a privilege to be Deputy Editor. Thank you to everyone I’ve worked with who made it amazing 💛
Test and Trace employees told me they were paid £9.50p/h to complete 'pointless' general knowledge quizzes asking them to name the Spice Girls during the final weeks of the scheme. If they asked questions, they were threatened with disciplinary action. 🧵
HUGE news, especially for
@PeopleUoM
who have campaigned for this so tirelessly over the years. Biggest uni in the country redistributing £12m worth of shares and redirecting other investments into carbon efficient companies is no small feat & shows the value of student activism
Twin success!! 👯♀️👯 These two sets of twins have both received stellar results this morning and will be progressing to sixth form here. Congrats all!
@MENnewsdesk
This week I found out that
@paramore
among others have sampled our very own Beetham Tower’s eerie windy wails in their music, so of course I had to write about it for
@MENnewsdesk
. God I love this city 😂🐝
