NetBird uses kernel WireGuard when possible. Meaning on Linux servers. This is the most recent benchmark we run on AWS EC2 t3.large instances with 5Gbits/sec interfaces. You can secure your network within Cloud or Datacenter and still be fast!

@devilmonastery Not really :) You can consider NetBird as an Open-Source alternative to Tailscale. We also do quite a few things differently technology-wise, e.g., using kernel WireGuard when possible for better performance. Also, NetBird is based on open standards like ICE, TURN, and STUN.

@OndrejValenta3 Yes. You can use NetBird as an alternative. But NetBird uses peer-to-peer connections while the firezone is pretty much a centralized WireGuard server.

@Inferno986retur I think that it can :) What are the requirements? If it is just creating a private network and connecting to a game server within this network then yes! You could try the cloud version first - the simplest way.

@BigRetroMike We replace traditional business VPNs making it simple to connect resources without configuration. All the resources, connected to the network establish P2P connections to each other bypassing central gateways.

@drallcome We are working on a tagging system with policies. You'd be able to group peers and configure access for each group. I think that this should cover a better overview case. The plan is to release in June. Mockups attached :)

@jotunfo There are different use cases. When you need to securely connect resources or to remotely access them. And you don't want to bother with VPN server installation and configuration :) E.g. EC2 instances running in the cloud or maybe your raspberry Pi hosted at home.

@BigRetroMike Mesh VPN is a peer-to-peer network that creates direct connections between every member (peer). In Traditional VPN there is a central gateway through which members are connecting. So, we are different.

This feature allows access to your private networks without installing NetBird on every machine! E.g., you have an AWS VPC or home LAN with a bunch of resources you want to access. Just install NetBird on one of them (it could be an OpenWRT router) and enable Network Route. Done!

@dennishojgaard Right now, you can already connect machines directly regardless of the location. It doesn't matter for NetBird if the machine runs in different data centers or clouds. AWS <-> GCP, GCP <-> Azure, or DC1 <-> DC2 just works!
