@Channel4News
Now that the Bar has had to withdraw its goodwill because of the way it’s been treated by the govt, will you be inviting
@DominicRaab
and
@JoSidhuQC
on to your programme to discuss the situation and how it may be resolved ?
After 30yrs as a solicitor I joined the Bar this month, and the warmth + friendliness I’ve received has been fantastic, it really is like joining a big family
It’s not just been from the Bar, but also from the Bench, a number of congratulatory comments
@JaneyGodley
@SusannaHoffs
@toryman1979
From what read about
@SusannaHoffs
she’s such a lovely and decent person that I wouldn’t be surprised if she offered to open for you at one of your gigs if she was in the UK - that would proper p—s of Henry 😆
Dear America
Unless (a) you know all the facts, and (b) you understand English criminal law, don’t tweet about Tommy Robinson
Unless of course you want to give us all a big laugh at your expense, if so, crack on then !!
On Monday morning the MOJ will face its greatest fear, not just a united criminal Bar, but a united independent Bar - one profession, standing together, doing right and fearing no-one
@DrProudman
Not every sexual offence case is a rape, the spectrum of sexual offending is much wider
And for the record, those who deal with any sexual offences, prosecution or defence, deserve respect as it’s hard work, very hard
@GarethDavies007
@Nigel_Farage
Nigel Farage is a nobody
He’s not an MP, never has been, and has failed to be 7 times
He’s an ex-MEP who had one of the worst attendance records there
He’s a shareholder in a company that masquerades as a political party but which has no real policies
Earlier this year I did a Court Martial case in which I learnt that an RAF mantra taught to all officers is,
“Don’t do the easy thing, do the right thing”
Monday won’t be easy, but it will be right
Well, it’s been an interesting couple of weeks
After 30 years as a solicitor my time is coming to an end.
I’ve been offered a brilliant opportunity and so I will be transferring to the Bar and joining
@KCH_GardenSq
Time to get a wig and a new gown I guess
Ok, as a rule I don’t post personal photos on here, but this was kind of a big thing today (and it’s got a whole Dark Knight vibe to it😂)
Huge thanks to everyone
@HonSocGraysInn
who have been utterly brilliant in helping me get here
For those at the criminal Bar, and solicitors who are reading the various statements coming out about possible disciplinary action, think of this, how completely scared must the MOJ be of the CBA action that they are encouraging such statements to be put out?
And then it was done
30 years of being a solicitor
16 at CDA
Chapter complete
Now to start a new one, at the Bar,
@KCH_GardenSq
Time to be a lawyer again
@MarinaNigrelli
May I go for person C - whose parents fled persecution to this country, who had enjoyed the protection + benefits of this country, rising to position of power, and who then uses that position to prevent others coming here fleeing persecution. That person is the worst
@lookatmybriefs
And I note she denies anyone the ability to reply to her comments
I think that particular tweet is so pernicious that perhaps it’s one
@barstandards
should be concerned about
@SirJJQC
The new Tory mantra - I’ll only go when I’m told to, as that allows me to abdicate all personal responsibility (as well as decency, integrity and honour)
@JMPSimor
Overall I think Karl Marx was wrong, but when he comes to religion he’s spot on, it’s a form of social control, nothing more.
As someone else said, religion justifies good men doing bad things
The world would be a better place without it
When is a broken bottle waved at a shop assistant in a robbery not an offensive weapon ?
When the LAA don’t want to pay for a case as an armed robbery 😡
The the three male Magistrates who reduced my female colleague to tears today - guys, pack your bags, you’re done, finished, over with
If you have any shred of decency you’ll resign before my complaint arrives
@simonharris_mbd
Perhaps you’d like to introduce them all, to my very good friend S127 Communications Act. Perhaps put a copy with every reply, you know, just pointing out that the law says this is kinda bad…….
@jc4southsuffolk
I’m afraid that’s not true
Multi-defendant trials take the longest time, so , for example an 8-handed case could easily take 2 months. Realistically therefore that court will deal with maybe 6-8 trials in a year
Your figure of 250 cases is therefore misleading
@secretHT1
Completely agree - think it should be a prerequisite before you can stand to be an MP that you have worked in public service for at least 2 years, so you can better understand the people you want to represent
No custodial sentences under 6 months
Domestic common assault becomes a non-imprisonable offence in England and Wales
Just think about that for a moment
What will they say about our society ?
@HallDog303
@Anna_Soubry
He’s a political opportunist who ditched the Labour Party to seek power, advocating hatred and intolerance
Anyone who supports that kind of attitude has no place in our national politics
@VeeCee30
@IngrahamAngle
It’s fear. For the first time the gun lobby in America is really scared. And they don’t know what to do, so they’re lashing out in the media at kids - which is not going to help them at all
At Lincoln Crown Court today the High Court Judge will Sentence the ejector seat company responsible for killing a Red Arrows pilot in 2011
- so the Red Arrows have just flown over the court to make their presence felt .......
@dave43law
@IainDale
She is notably missing from the Shadow Cabinet. She’s done, finished, the Tories want nothing more to do with her and the people of Fareham should be utterly ashamed of themselves for voting her back into Parliament
@nowthisnews
@Rosiecosy
Identity the guy. Invite him in to the store to speak with the a Management (he’ll arrogantly think it’s for an apology) and then give him a letter banning him from the store for life + have security escort him off the premises. Simple.
@BiologyLover31
It’s an ill-conceived and poorly executed photo
As such it speaks of poor-judgement and an amateurish attitude, neither of which are positive qualities in a politician on the national stage
When the material is about your son, your daughter, then you’ll be interested
The problem is that by then there’ll be no-one left to defend them, because of the cuts to criminal justice system
Take a stand now, or they’ll be the next victims of this
@NadineDorries
One can only hope that is the case, because if it is then the Tories will avert the biggest peacetime financial disaster to threaten country
@DrProudman
@lookatmybriefs
@barstandards
I think to launch such an attack on the justice system in such a public way undermines public confidence in the system by suggesting that certain evidence should not be challenged. I, personally, do not think it’s appropriate for a member of the Bar to do that
@AllyLlorente
Wholly unacceptable. I appreciate you cannot identify the individual Judge, but perhaps the court centre, so that we can at least be wary of going there
@DailyMailUK
@IpsoNews
this is a completely misleading headline and they should be held to account for this as it indirectly stokes more trouble such as that currently taking place involving right-wing groups in Whitehall
@LucyGoBag
Completely agree - the best thing people can do to express support is to donate to cancer charities
I’d like to think HRH would be delighted if her illness led to a huge upsurge in donations helping to lead to a cure.
@CrimeGirI
@sdavieslaw
“Yeah, but like he’s a solicitor, so he’ll be makes like fousands of quid for doin’ that won’t he, bet he like drives a Ferrari n all” - said a Ministry of Justice spokesman
Dear Mr Unmarked Police Car
You were really obvious this evening because no normal BMW driver drives at the speed limit, courteously + uses indicators
So when you do it, it gives you away 😉
To all my criminal law Barrister friends + followers
You’ll soon have the chance to vote on MOJ proposals
Consider this - MOJ has paid £30m to so-called expert consultants, but offers significantly less than that to you, the real experts
Ask. What are their priorities?
To all the Counsel from London etc who come to Lincoln Crown Ct
If you have anything in on Monday / Tuesday + you don’t fancy the slog up here, I’m at court anyway, so DM me + I’ll happily help you out and cover your case 😊
@RealJamesWoods
And your point is what James? That this automatically makes him some kind of monster?
The kind who gives, say, tax cuts to the rich, who tries to cut healthcare to the poor, or who makes fun of the disabled
That kind of monster?
Given that we’ve all been working hard - very hard - to keep the criminal justice system going during this crisis, and given the contempt with which the govt regards us, I think every solicitor and barrister needs a holiday.
How about we ALL take August off ?
May I make a radical suggestion for our new DPP?
One day a month, prosecute either a Magistrates remand Court or a Crown Court general list. Do that for one year.
It will remind him of the realities we’re all facing, something he can then communicate back to our masters
@Lauren_Southern
Incredible. The total lack of understanding in your tweet is utterly incredible. Every single word you said is completely wrong, which, I guess, is some kind of achievement........
Banging. Head. On. Desk.
Criminal legal aid refused on IOJ. Appeal to LAA and refused again - not in IOJ.
Point out that (by now) court have had all options PSR + sent client down for 3 months!
LAA say, not relevant to our decision!
Banging. Head. On. Desk.
Today was the perfect example of why the criminal Solicitors profession will become extinct
There was an understanding between all the firms to oppose Saturday courts, and just one more firm to talk to
If we stood united then we could stop the plans in their tracks
But
@jeremycorbyn
Wouldn’t it be better if Labour just rejected Brexit, full stop? Save billions for NHS, secure 1,000’s jobs, and so doing make the country better for the many, not the few?
@BarristerSecret
@SuellaBraverman
@RobertBuckland
It gets to the point now that the credibility of the Bar Council is at stake for if they do nothing then they are condoning such conduct. Question is, will they do anything ?
@BarristerSecret
I once drove the 20 miles to Reading County Court, only to find my case wasn’t listed. Puzzled I went into the court office, showing them my listing notice.
They pointed out it was for today. In Aldershot Court. 30 miles away..........
Possibility of a few quid now, they don’t realise the damage that they have done to the local profession and how it will end up with all of us having to give up our Saturdays
Short-sightedness and selfishness, it’ll be the death of our profession
@Richiemuso
@JaneyGodley
I’ve read the letter from Jess Phillips and imho is a superbly written piece, such a shame that
@RishiSunak
is so weak that he will do nothing
Some words of advice for all criminal advocates out there, young or old
Take a break
Find a few days, and stop work
Your clerks will sort your diary, you will not starve
There’s no prize for over-working, just ill health
Take a break, before the work breaks you
@RomyBowdie
@LindsayE_A
If she has no right to wear that uniform then she arguably commits an offence against Section 2 of the Uniforms Act 1894
Interestingly, given
#Partygate
, this too carries the penalty of a fine
I think it’s very amusing how
@BorisJohnson
takes a pop at criminal defence lawyers, given how much he’s going to want us defend him in years to come…….
@heidiallen75
@AdamSButler65
So presumably you will be calling for the vote to be re-done? You cannot in all conscience allow such a tainted vote to stand ?
@CPhilpOfficial
Utterly unrealistic and totally at odds with the very public statement of the PM. All this does is show that
@MoJGovUK
has no plan, no clue and no leadership
@BarristerSecret
We’ve had 3 clients die in the last 6 months whilst waiting for trials for serious offences
3 people who died with allegations hanging over them
3 sets of victims who never got justice
And all the MOJ will care about ?
Three more cases off the waiting list
#JusticeIsBroken
@BarristerSecret
I understand that the two short planks are seeking an injunction not to be compared to her for fear that it will damage their reputation for intelligence
I pay £68 to the EU a year
If I have one small Americano from Costa coffee a week, that’s £101 a year
The coffee is nice, but it doesn’t give me free access to Europe, or reduced prices on tariff free goods
I know which is the better value (hint, not the coffee)
@Lauren_Southern
Oh and let’s just add one final point
He pleaded guilty
He admitted he broke the law
He admitted to committing a crime
He is therefore by his own admission, a criminal
@sazmeister88
@VeeCee30
Yes we can - I already have.
Stop watching it
If everyone who objected to it actually stopped watching it, they’d feel better + the collapse in viewing figures would get it off air!
@neilhwilliams
@IngramGlynis
@GillianKeegan
It’s the same with all Tory MPs, they do not represent their constituents - they represent their party and the financial interests which control it
@VeeCee30
@Amy_Siskind
That’s it, I’m working Trump-time from now on ! If it’s good enough for the President of the U S of A then it’s good enough for me !!
The other day someone on here was saying that doing Police Station work was easy money.
Let me tell you about my evening.
I’m on call; 24hrs, at 45 minutes notice to go out, whatever the time
I’ve done my normal 9hr office day, come home, sit down
Phone rings
@CrimeGirI
I like Judges. They are all absolutely lovely all of the time, and they never make mistakes, and they’re lovely, and they funny, and did I say they’re all lovely 😊
