Sheriffs have a duty to keep the public safe and cooperate with ICE.
I embedded with ICE yesterday in Charlotte as they arrested a twice deported Honduras citizen who was recently arrested on ADW, domestic violence and assault on a female charges. Since going into effect, I've been regularly reporting on the different interpretations of HB10. The arrest was made in the field because ICE says, despite the detainer, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office did not notify them that this man was about to be released from jail. The Mecklenburg County sheriff does not believe the phone call notification is required. ICE says this makes everything more dangerous for the agents and the suspect. Instead of a controlled arrest at a jail, they have to go find the person. The story will air at today at 5:30 on @wsoctv
