You’re not going to believe this, but I interviewed DJ Ramon Sucesso for Mixmag to find out the story behind his raucous, viral baile funk 🇧🇷🫨
@mixmag
@djramonsucesso
Attention
@nayfun_evans
and all other interested parties. A couple more Love Energy uploads just gone up on my Archive dot org. This and one other. Hardcore breakbeats morphing.
youtube algorithm put me onto this classic ukg mix from a DJ who doesnt claim to be a DJ. just a dad who plays music he grew up to. bro doesnt even have a DJ name??? this transition was MAD!!!!!!!!!!!! instant subscribe
This man Caribou played the hardest tune CloudCore has ever released at a free party in Manchester while looking like my late grandad Dennis, that's my canuck
Well it really happened and last night
@djramonsucesso
managed to turn Bristol into Rio at the first time of asking. I’ve never seen a UK crowd move like that before
Many don’t know this but Two Shell have released sooooo many versions of this legendary tune. This is like witnessing the completion of the sagrada familia
Been waiting for this one for a while and very glad at the results. Florentino and Shygirl's OG feels like a driving factory floor - Ramon Sucesso's version runs through forty brick walls a minute
family.. i'm over the moon to let you know my album « TRUE MAGIC » is dropping on the 12th of july. i think it's the best thing i've ever made, honestly.. writing this record nearly cost me my nerves but i loved making it so much and i'm so gassed you'll be able to hear it soon.
This is one of the best mixes I've heard all ear. A wall-to-wall infectious megamix of bouncing dembow, 🇧🇷 funk, ballroom house. Every track will be in my rekordbox by tonight
(mainly) uk producers are getting too restricted by “rules”, feel like all the tracks that had that extra lil edge to them and took risks were from producers that weren’t ingrained in the uk scene/genre norms
1 year ago, Two Shell assigned me a secret mission to document all the hijinks and world-building they were about to pull off.
For Two Shell’s
@mixmag
cover, here’s my findings: a tale of fish, boring rocks, cease-and-desist letters and AI deepfakes 🐚🐚
In disbelief that I'm typing this, but I wrote this month's cover story for
@DJmag
on the one and only Sammy Virji 😁😁
Honoured to pen this one as he's creating something special in UK garage. it's not out online for a couple weeks but pick up the magazine in any WH Smiths!!!
So Two Shell are selling white labels of something called “THE ALBUM” at their club night tonight. This sleeve is littered with waveforms that is likely a morse code
Jeremy Sylvester is the goddamn master of UK garage, and I interviewed him for my latest Mixmag feature. The release of his debut album is the perfect time to re-affirm him as one of the greatest to ever do it💐
@jeremysylvester
I don't think i've seen one music journalist question what's happening to UKG and Speed Garage as a whole, and I find that worrying. I'll have to start writing my own articles 😅
Two Shell have created a fishing game on their site 🎣
Producers have been uploading tracks in the form of customisable fish and users can “fish” for them, but are limited by being “too tired to fish”
Speedtest Rave is showing Brazilian clubs the UK sound, whether they like it or not 🏁
For NUKG Monthly, I went deep to find out more about the Brazilian garage scene and the label that's helping the style to snowball in the country’s major cities.
For
@nobellsblog
, I looked at Two Shell and CloudCore, and how they are using passwords and digital scarcity to preserve the intimacy of a genuine club music community
One thing that’s come big in summer 2024 is this convergence of hard house and garage that labels like ec2a and Hardline, artists like Soul Mass Transit System and Mance have been pushing
After a period of acceleration, the dance floor felt different this summer.
With festival season officially over in the Northern Hemisphere, we look back to take the pulse of dance and electronic music.
Read the feature:
This Iglooghost album is insane. He imagines the pirate radio sound of a British seaside town that gets cut off from the mainland and the internet. The result is UK bass, IDM and drill reimagined with restlessness and half-forgotten memories
For
@pitchfork
, I wrote about the debut
@moormother
and DJ Haram album as 700 Bliss, Nothing to Declare. It's a noisy, thrillingly confrontational album.
It would be an upset for a canuck to have the best garage tune of the 2024, but this embodies the simple joy of classic 2step pop wholeheartedly. The synth build absolutely rains down the euphoria it's magical
Quick check up on the places I've written for after almost three years in:
Pitchfork
The Guardian
Bandcamp
Mixmag
DJ Mag
Resident Advisor
NME
Dazed
The Wire
The Quietus
No Bells
Honestly? I’m into this. Bieber has vocal chops, it’s his taste that’s always been the issue musically.
This is just the start of mk.gee influencing the top of the music world though trust me
Back to covering the Brazilian funk scene with a review for
@pitchfork
!! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Spent the last month trying to describe the new comp from
@NTSlive
, which shows the endless and impertinent creativity of the funk mandelão underworld
The Mix 032:
