People are horrified by this anti-nature undemocratic approach. Not the Kiwi way at all.
Btw just FYI I’m not into the whole “everyone’s going to get it” mentality about Covid. There are too many vulnerable people for this to be an acceptable approach to our friends and whānau, so I’m trying quite hard not to get it thanks all the same.
Yesterday he was outed on a secret dinner with Stevensons Mining (who've repeatedly failed in court to mine Te Kuha), today we learn that Bathurst & Federation Mining were there too. Still no list for scrutiny & Cab Minister hiding meetings.

Are we now in a position where our politicians are openly advocating for an extinction of an endangered species over mining interests?

I really think the media should give Chris Bishop a hard time about saying this.

This is not transparency, it's civil society pressure & the ombudsman.

Personally, I hate this. We live in a small village & the speed limit increases at the farm next door. There is a primary school a couple of hundred metres away. Driving in from 100km/hr to 50km/hr was bloody dangerous for children, pets & the community. 80km/hr has been a relief

If you're wondering what cuts to the Department of Conservation will look like, here's a handy reflection from the last time this happened, only this time the cumulative impact of climate impacts will make it significantly worse for nature & communities

A personal message from Nicola Toki, Chief Executive of Forest & Bird. Submissions close tomm on the Govt's new Fast-track Approvals Bill to override environmental protections. Join 1000s of Kiwis who've said "No" to this attack on nature and democracy:
"There is little doubt the projects envisioned by this fast-track legislation will be, by & large, carried out by international corporates, the main objectives of which are to maximise returns to shareholders, precious few of which will be New Zealanders."
This isn't fine. There are a lot of people in Canterbury, including parents of young children, like me. What's happened to us Kiwis with such a staunch history of standing up for ourselves (see Save Manapouri; Nuclear Free NZ etc) that we just "accept" this? Time to wake up again
Nitrate levels across Canterbury are increasing, with 40% of wells tested in the Ashburton water zone breaching the maximum national drinking water level.
We got less than 48 hrs notice to front at Select Committee on the Government's Fast-Track bill. We are clear on what we are advocating for so that wasn't an issue for

Watch: 46 mins in.
The concern about fast track has well and truly spilled over from specific advocacy groups such as environmental NGOs, into the living rooms of concerned voters of all political stripes. This is about the fifth article I've seen in the last few days outlining the poor process.
Four working days to respond... Why? there's nothing to be afraid of in letting people have their say with a reasonable timeframe for them to do so. Kiwis have moved on & most I know want a fairer society, mature enough to understand past wrongs & build stronger communities.
Public submissions are now being called for the Local Government (Electoral Legislation and Māori Wards and Māori Constituencies) Amendment Bill. Make a submission by 11.59pm, Wednesday, 29 May:
Just a wee reminder for anyone in this country who thinks we're "too small" & our emissions don't matter. 1. We are small. 2. They do. A lot. We can do better. Some courageous leadership would be awesome on this... (p.s. watch the video, the evidence is in the first few seconds).

Good leaders make good decisions based on good evidence (see also the coalition agreement). Yet on the FastTrack (and other) bills, the public & experts are being shut out (although developers have been assisting them by providing input into the bill). What is the Govt afraid of?
