Kareem. A few tips for those who have Muslim colleagues
1. No we can't even drink water
2. You don't have to hide away to eat your lunch
3. Its alright if you forget and ask if we want a drink (for the10th time!)
4. Not all Muslims fast (dont assume or ask why !) 😊
Really pleased to announce I will be joining Frimley ICS as EDI Director/System Lead. Not bad for someone who was told (just a few years ago) they weren't 'experienced enough' for a mid management role.Well this Asian, hijab wearing, Muslim woman has broken that glass ceiling 💪🧕

"You must be used to this heat?" Mate, I was born in Bradford and lived in the North East. I have no memories of sunshine 😆

Proud of my 3 girls today. So determined to stand up for whats right. The teachings of our Prophet say "Whosoever of you sees an injustice, change it with your hand; and if not able to do so, then change it with your tongue; and if not, then with your heart".

So it was my last day

What a delight to receive a signed copy of Prof Michael West's recent book "Compassionate Leadership" Sustaining Wisdom, Humanity and Presence in Health & Social Care. A must read if you want to develop high performing , Compassionate and inclusive cultures . Thank you
@WestM61
Being "committed" to Equality and Inclusion is very different from actively doing something about it. Giving up power and space for others takes courage. Not everyone is cut out for it. That's it.
Been reflecting recently.Often as Equality leads we dont have an opportunity to share our lived experiences. We focus more on uplifting and amplifying the voice of others. How are we looking after our own wellbeing? Thinking of setting up a call to chat , anyone interested?
Seen lots of Diversity & Inclusion roles advertised recently. D&I leads require phenomenal skills around communication, leadership, influencing, problem solving , coaching, legal compliance, empathy..could go on an on. This should be reflected in grade and salary offers please🙏
Leaders need to look around the room and call out the lack of diversity themselves, not wait for others to tell them .Take action. You are leaders for a reason . Diversity in decision making leads to better decisions . It's a no brainer.
Right, going to break my fast now 😊
Hey
@AmazonUK
just shopping for Ramadan and saw this table runner. I'd advise ditching the wine bottle and perhaps replacing with water and dates ? Dont wanna be too tipsy whilst reading our tarawih do we ? 😳 😱 🤦♀️

Bit annoyed with myself getting upset when training in my consultancy role 2day.Shared example of picking up 5yr old daughter from school & her telling me she wasn't invited to best friends b'day party because"her mum didn't like having brown people in the house" Unprofessional?

If the culture is not an inclusive culture - it's not compassionate, its not collective and it's not well -led. How true this is thank you for sharing

Amazing, compassionate care given to my brother with covid-19 on ward 11b. Staff have been so kind on the phone , understanding how difficult it is when you can't visit. Thank you 💕

Trans people face hate and abuse on a daily basis. They are more likely to be victims than perpetrators of crime. Trans people are more likely to have mental health conditions because of how society treats them. This needs to stop. We all need to speak up

My dad. My hero. Miss you beyond words. You instilled values in me and shaped me to be the person I am today. Will always walk in your shadow, praying you are looking down proud 🙏

When this player's hijab started falling off to reveal her hair, her opponents gathered around to provide cover while she fixed it.
This is our mood today.
When one of us needs us: We stop. We huddle up. We protect each other.

Today marks the start of Islamophobia Awareness Month. Hatecrimes targeting Muslims makes up 42% of all religiously motivated hatecrimes. As a visibly Muslim woman I've faced verbal abuse, discrimination & microagressions. We need allies to speak up against

programme of events. All in a day in the life of an EDI professional
Said this from outset and say again. In times of crises we need to ensure Equality & Diversity remains at the core of everything we do and at the heart of decision making. Talked to many EDI leads that have been deployed into alternative roles . Wrong decision in my opinion.
Always an ally for my

So Government report led by people denying institutional racism concludes institutional racism doesn't play a part in long term ethnic disparities. Shock horror. So how do you explain below then ?

Thinking of my beautiful father today and miss him deeply. Will never forget his words & wisdom. Always taught me to be fair and pursue justice . "Be the voice of those facing oppression no matter how unpopular it makes you" Love you dad .

you're right "It is a shame that it has taken a pandemic to highlight it! "

I was always reluctant to 'show up' as the real version of me. Always seeking validation from others. I now feel in a space I can be myself. It takes the right people and culture around you for this to happen.

How to be a race ally fully captured in video below 👇
1. Speak up/challenge
2. Notice denial/justification of perpetrator
3. Call out denial /justification
4. Challenge victim mentality/ 'white fragility'
5. Call to action - demand apology
After convo’s I’ve had this week on racism, here’s a ticket inspector doing his job and a passenger responding by asking if he has a passport. Sharing this because my friend in the vid gives a good example on how to stand up for what’s right even if it doesn’t concern you.

Anyone else unintentionally use urdu /arabic words in the workplace? Said "Khuda Hafiz" to two different colleagues today after a teams call 😆 🤦♀️ ( hoping they didn't notice)
When underrepresented individuals get to the top remember to think of those who are still climbing.People assume there's only room for one BAME person or one woman etc . No! Keep the ladder down and keep the doors open!
When senior leaders & board members dont feel psychologically safe to speak up, it sends a message to the whole organisation. No matter how well designed your strategies & policies are, if culture is poor, staff & patients suffer. Board meetings should disrupt & challenge thinking
Still see many leaders surround themselves with people just like them. Where is the fun in that ? They will only tell you what you want to hear.
#groupthink
. Build teams that challenge and disrupt your thinking
Truly heartbroken to hear this news today. 💔 I first met Assia when my dad was end of life

Covid-19 does not discriminate, but it does impact people differently.
The impact of emergency coronavirus legislation on groups who are already disadvantaged in other ways must be considered to ensure they are not further left behind.
