@JHCPAL Nice one, well done, this one really tickles me. Someone’s third name accidentally becomes the name of a settlement which was originally built around a pit named after him. I’ll see if I have anything which might make the links to where it came from.

@TyneSnapper @JHCPAL Can’t find any early spellings, but some might come up - in their absence I’ll place my money (maybe 50p) on the horse that says [rock] dove-nose (as in point)-point, with nose/point being a duplication/tautology not unusual in place names 🤷‍♂️
