They actually are not - at least not to the same extent. There is a stark difference betw. using apps vs. using websites and other systems like it. My experience is that teens struggle with things beyond smartphones bc they didnt have to learn how to use computers like we did.

I agree. My personal experience with that (I lived in Japan last year) is that whilst BL and Shojo manga and anime are still insanely popular, the greatest marketing and thus, money, is given to Shonen. Everything else exists, and is loved, but is kept rather low.

I feel this way too! It feels like the general fandom’s attention span seems to be shorter too. Always demanding more and not taking time to appreciate the stories before moving on to the next hyped up thing. I prefer longevity over “fast hype”.

Ever since they started viewing fandom as something that produces "content", it's been going downhill.
And by "them", I mean the children that have grown up in a world that is contantly online, who are constantly fed not art but "content", and y'know , we can't even blame them.
I think using AI to create fanworks fundamentally misunderstands what fandom *is*.
It's not about making "content" on demand, it's about sharing your love of something with a community and playing in the sandbox it provides just because you care about it enough to do so.

At this point, fandom is something I enjoy very privately. I interact with my 2-3 people per fandom who I know and trust, occasionally comment on art/fics, and that is it. I am tired of infantile fights over the right and wrong ways to depict and interpret fictional characters.
fandom internet is such an unsafe and unkind environment these days. it's so sad to watch the gap between fans grow wider and wider. the fear of interacting becomes very real because you don't know who to trust anymore and who's going to try to ruin your reputation or worse.

Some parts of the YOI fandom have massive problems with distinguishing fiction (and the scope of action it allows when interacting with it) from reality.
What you see in fics/art of Victuuri is not real and does not hurt anyone and some of y'all really need to learn that.
