Harris' campaign has requested vetting materials from potential VPs, including Cooper (NC), Kelly (AZ), Shapiro (PA), Whitmer (MI), Walz (MN) + Pritzker (IL), according to a person familiar. Beshear told CNN he hasn't been asked to submit info at this point.

These flags reference the state’s Scandinavian heritage. Illinois is much more of a melting pot—and I don’t really think in this day and age it’s warranted for a state flag to be “ethnic”—but it’s fun to think about. The 3rd flag here gives me slightly Christofascist vibes…

One of the truly great Illinois towns.
Visited Galena for the first time, and boy what a city. It feels like all the time between 1826 and now converging to a single point. It also does not feel distinctly feel Midwestern, almost like the near south with Midwestern characteristics.

The North Star motif plays into the state’s motto L'Étoile du Nord, or the North Star. I like the 8-pointed “M” star. The 4th flag here is considered the front runner for MN’s new flag and was proposed awhile ago. I’d like the star to have a few more points.

Elgin was a great city to live in. Took many walks late at night and enjoyed many $1 tacos. Safe & affordable for sure, plus beautiful, fun, historical, and has a great library.
Congratulations to Elgin for being named the safest and most affordable city in the nation!

This is one of my favorite towns in Illinois. It is an easy drive from Chicago w lots of stops on the way, a stone’s throw from the Mississippi, and is quaint and lovely, straight out of a hallmark movie, without being phony.
Mt Carroll, Carroll county IL, Pop 1.4K, some beautiful building here. It definitely has one of the steepest downtowns in the state

A common misconception but so wrong! The beauty of Shawnee Forest, the Mississippi & parts of the IL River are readily apparent to all visitors. But there are vibrant cities in Central IL & beautiful small towns & backroads all over. View from the interstate doesn’t do it justice

Mr. Illinois was transported across state lines to spend a few hours in Charleston, SC, one of the few U.S. cities that holds a candle to Chicago architecturally. Really just a beautiful place. Please enjoy & share my observations, compiled here in this thread. 🧵

This sculpture, The Lincoln Megalith at Champaign’s West Side Park, apparently once stood 20’ tall in downtown Champaign and boasted an eternal flame. It was apparently controversial due to both cost and race relations. Hard to find much info on it.
