Physics teacher. Happy to share science resources. Liberal & leftwing, although pretty conservative on school behaviour and traditional teaching & learning.

@JamesAFurey No matter how good your teaching is you have to teach the exam specification and you have to teach exam technique. They won't effectively learn exam technique alone without explicit instruction and it will lower most children's grades.

@ModestTeacher Agree but this does beg the question what should be included in textbooks and how will they be utilised. Some textbooks are not worth the paper they're printed on. Some are too hard and some are too easy. The ones in the solid middle don't cater for the top 10 and 20%

@alexlindsay @ModestTeacher If reading text is underused the kids will not be able to read well. Reading regularly also strengthens concentration in a way videos don't.

@mrsbettysbooks @RogersHistory I meant entering high school. You may already be at or very close to the peak. I reckon it will stay at the peak for 3y and then get better as quickly as it got worse.

@mrsbettysbooks @RogersHistory They're getting less academically and socially able every year at the bottom end.

@terriers2907 @TheTeacher6 @oldandrewuk Some scripts are for good practice and consistency for the kids. Some belong in the bin because they're pointless and cumbersome. The devil is definitely in the detail. If you're in a school that is insisting on petty and ineffective change I'd just leave...

@TheTeacher6 @terriers2907 @oldandrewuk Agree. Just read a few from the top, middle and bottom. It doesn't need to be marked. The mistakes will be the same.

@terriers2907 @TheTeacher6 @oldandrewuk Not all schools have overbearing scrutiny. Most don't in fact.

@terriers2907 @TheTeacher6 @oldandrewuk Devil is in the details... What is on the script you're being asked to follow?

@TheTeacher6 @terriers2907 @oldandrewuk Coz it just makes it clear and means kids know what to bring to school, a writing pen and a marking pen not the same as the teachers.

@oflynnsocial Incorporating islamic blasphemy laws is utter nonsense. Whether contrary to human rights legislation or the UKs own insighting racial or religious hatred law is up for debate, particularly around frée speech.

@JamesAFurey No but I do think the lack of impetus to fix it serves the political elite who don't want the masses to be educated enough to question what they do.

@TheTeacher6 @terriers2907 @oldandrewuk Agree but do think teachers should mark in red and students in green (or whatever).

@MrDanielBuck Agree. But let's not ignore flaws. On the day performance varies significantly and affects life chances. Can also be luck of the draw. They can assess a whole class quite well if special cases are removed but are not as fair to individuals as many think. Best of a bad bunch.

@TinaBit @cards86fan @educator4ever36 Not support to just ignore the problems they cause. Students that can't speak English can't learn unless taught intensively until capable of learning themselves with some continued support. Highly disruptive students need discipline and the real threat of being kicked out.

@marcportermagee UK Catholic schools often use hidden exclusionary mechanisms although many don't as they see it against their ethos. - Parents take them to church: 2 parent household, don't work weekends - Expensive uniform - Exclusive neighbourhood

@terriers2907 @oldandrewuk There's room for variation and style but there is common good practice and certain routines can be good for the whole school.
