The etymology of this fruit is so interesting. The original cultivar found in present-day Mexico, called Tzápotl or Xīcohtzápotl in Nahuatl was much liked by the Spanish & they called it Zapote. The Spanish then brought it over & cultivated it in the Philippines. (1/n)
