The conflict in Sudan does not dominate the headlines, but it is the world’s largest humanitarian disaster and harbours some of the worst atrocities against humanity. Now the country is tragically moving deeper into famine. An exhibition of drawings by children in Sudan - the survivors of mass atrocities is testament to the horrors of this war. I saw the pictures in Parliament and met the organisers - Waging Peace - and members from the Sudanese diaspora here in the UK. I will continue to shine a light on this devastating crisis and press the Government to act urgently to find a way to end this war, to get humanitarian aid in, and stop the atrocities. @WagingPeaceUK

This is just so moving. I met Michael Levy last autumn when he was (untiringly) campaigning for the release of Or. His story was heartbreaking and everything in it is told by this moment when the brothers are reunited. #BringThemHomeNow
First hug ❤️🩹🎗️ Or Levy reunites with his older brother, Michael, and his parents, after 491 days in captivity. #BringThemHomeNow

Our rivers are our lifeblood. Esher and Walton is a river community and I’m determined to protect them - from stopping sewage spills to moving overstay boats and protecting constituents from the hike in water bills. I am appalled by President Trump’s dangerous proposals for the forced displacement of 2.2 million Gazans – this would be a grave violation of international law, and threatens the fragile peace and getting the hostages home. As @LibDems spokesperson for International Development, I asked the Development Minister to condemn these proposals and for the Government to commit to the immediate recognition of a Palestine state. I also asked about the impact of the USAID funding freeze to the humanitarian response in Gaza.

This is heartbreaking - see @UNReliefChief testimony from Gaza. Now is the time to flood Gaza with aid and for the UK Govt to use every lever at our disposal to keep that fragile ceasefire in place.
People in Gaza “are searching for family members… [in] the remains of their homes. And you see the dogs as well, on the rubble. And what you notice is that the people searching are thin, and the dogs are fat – because the dogs are also searching for corpses.” @UNReliefChief @TFletcher is in Gaza and witnessing the devastation firsthand. “This is the toughest working day of my life,” he tells me. Yet even amidst the desperation, he says he is hearing “defiance” from Palestinians, as more aid gets in: “This is our home and we’re not going anywhere.”

This week, Ofsted unveiled new proposals for report cards for school inspections—but local teachers have told me they aren’t convinced. Many see it as “the same system, different name” and worry that, after years of being ignored, nothing will really change. I am also concerned that there is no dedicated assessment on how schools will support children with SEN. Until we have radical change in how we educate our children, report cards - however innovative - won’t make the difference. I asked the Minister, on behalf of teachers in our constituency for reassurance that these reforms will be shaped by genuine reform and collaboration and I will continue to press the Government on this issue. Meanwhile this consultation is open until 28th April - parents, teachers and anyone invested in our schools can find out more here:

It is a disgrace that Conservative led Surrey County Council has cancelled the May elections. This is an outrageous denial of local democracy from a council that has failed its residents. I have issued a joint statement with the Surrey Liberal Democrat MPs @AlPinkerton @_Chris_Coghlan @helenemaguire @WillForster @ZoeFranklinLD alongside Leader of the Opposition @PaulDFollows which you can read below

Amid the USAID freeze and reports that the Agency might be shut down entirely, I asked the Development Minister in the International Development Select Committee how UK projects are being impacted and for reassurance that the UK will remain steadfast in our commitments to the world’s poorest and in the delivery of UK aid. @CommonsIDC

On #WorldCancerDay, I’m proud to be backing a much-needed Rare Cancer Law presented by @DrScottArthurMP A rare cancer is one that affects fewer than 6 in 100,000 people. They are often the most complex and deadliest types of cancer and the most difficult to treat—partly because clinical trials are so limited. Sadly, cancer touches all families and mine is no exception. My wonderful brother-in-law, Group Captain Pip Harding, was diagnosed at age 52 with a rare and devastating brain tumour—Glioblastoma. He was fortunate to find a pioneering brain cancer specialist, Dr. Paul Mulholland, who has been administering a promising treatment known as oncothermia. But oncothermia, like many groundbreaking treatments, is not available on the NHS and Pip’s treatment has been entirely funded by friends and family on a go fund me campaign. 💪 The Rare Cancer Bill would encourage pharmaceutical companies to invest more in researching these underfunded cancers, giving hope to those facing these devastating diagnoses. If we want to save lives, we must commit properly to NHS funding and incentivise companies to develop cutting-edge treatments. On World Cancer Day, let’s make that commitment— so that everyone affected by this terrible disease has a fighting chance. @cammaynard
