This is the quick shorthand to draw Hellboy that I naturally developed over time. I'm very happy with him so i wanted to share it in the form of a diagram
Sometimes I get bored & doodle outside the margin of animation files. On occasion, I will be animating, and get scared when Hellboy pops up out of nowhere
@dumbbitchskeet
I disagree with the first point, rigged animation only looks as good as the work put into it. I DO see the point you were trying to make but I don't think this was very relevant to the OG post because those examples were surely backed by solid / extensive traditional groundwork
Rough animation practice from ~1.5 years ago. Never finished it, but I'm still kind of impressed by how solid it looks... which is probably why I couldn't finish it on time
Here's an animation test. First video is a recreation of a shot from Baman Piderman
#22
using the Harmony rig. Then, there is a comparison, where the footage on the right is the original clip from the show & the one on the left is the recreation
Also, good news, a 2D animated film I helped out on has finally been released publicly. It's called "The Ballad of Skipjack and Atticus" & it has a lot of funny animals in it. I would be honoured if you checked it out & shared it around. 🫡

I'm going to put this on the backburner temporarily, but here's a sneak peek at a small Hellboy project I've been working on since May (Hellboy Naitropé Clebtropé)
I've shown this to people who don't know HB and I love how they go "I love how you gave him booty shorts / boxers" even though they really ARE that short in the comics
I remember searching for this dvd a couple years ago so I could analyze this scene in full quality, but never managed to find one. For a long time, the only available version of this was a low quality watermarked upload on B10 Extranet. So glad to see this
Did you know that they did a pilot short of sorts prior to CN greenlighting the movie Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens?
While not lost media, it's certainly uncommon!
Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens (The Movie, not this short) premiered 12 years ago, today!
My favourite thing about animating with my own rigs is when I realize I didn't account for how something would work in animation - like excessive Z-depth changes or heavy deformation - but it kind of just works anyway because I was proactive while rigging. Rare but gratifying
I got super addicted and watched the entirety of venture Bros in the last 2 weeks and did so many drawings that my entire memory of that time period is practically shot. Which means I should rewatch the entire show all over again right now to relive all those fun memories
At the last TAAFI job fair, I was in line for a little under an hour, and the whole time, I had to listen to this horribly cynical guy behind me rant about how much he hated the animation industry. Honestly I STILL think about that guy so often & whether he was right or not...
I'm watching late 2000s kids shows lately and something I realize I took for granted as a kid is how much the artists cared about the work they were doing. Lot of these shows have (sometimes sparse) hidden gems where you can tell someone at the helm of their dept. really cared
Anyhow I won't do much more of this "critical thinking" because it's boring. I'm going to keep thinking about silly masked men that like eating bananas
During that time, I kind of started to hate traditional animation. I wanted to make the BEST thing ever every time - I NEVER finished anything. Now, I realize animation is fun & fulfilling when you try to do the best thing ever... within strict constraints. Time, design, etc.
I think it would be fun to release some of my Harmony rigs publicly, but I have to wonder if anybody would actually have the means to use them when the barrier of entry to Harmony is so insane (any type of subscription costs 4 billion dollars)
I am deliberately avoiding proceeding with the kohga sidequest because I'm afraid if I complete it he won't become an NPC on the field and will just disappear and I'll never get to see him again
I'm gonna be cursed for the rest of my entire life to know an unhealthy & absolutely useless amount of sonic comics / shows / games trivia because of my obsessive phase when i was a teenager. I can't escape. It's a part of me
And, of course, some things just need to get DONE, regardless of how unimpressive they may look. Not only is it a waste of time to make everything high quality and high action all the time, it can actually lead to a worse viewer experience too.
(1/4) Im curious to see if Foamstars will develop its own identity as more info is released, or if it really is a cheap ripoff. Anyhow, it brings up a key point; Splatoon derives its charm from the fact that it "makes sense," and every aspect of its design justifies its existence
I had great professors in school, but there are a lot of small, weird things I remember them saying. I would ask for guidance about rigging and more than one of them suggested it was a "lower bar" career, & that I should really pursue 2D traditional animation (my 2nd strength)...
Personally I think this design is really appealing and looks very well done. I can think of a lot of people in real life that I have known who looked like this. I haven't seen this show but I'm sure the art style & character designs are the least of its problems.
My last Splatoon tweet is that Neo Sploosh's kit is way better than VSploosh. Curling bomb isn't bad but slows VSploosh down + Stamp is inconsistent. Beakons spec even further into Sploosh's mobility, support entire team, & wail is so cheap its a consistent, reliable entry tool.
Of course I inexplicably become sick on the day Im supposed to celebrate. This always happens for some weird reason, never getting sick except the night before or day of once a year events. Anyway, Im still going to eat pizza.
Ive never got to play themed Splatfests because I've been so busy, but I think the Springfest day 2 song is my favourite. It's really unique & sounds like a super paper mario song. It would fit right into that game - compare the instrumentation to floro sapien caverns for example
as of tomorrow, I am officially free from work and will move onto doing more work that is slightly less time consuming and / or annoying. With the free time I will get, the world will change after tomorrow (I cannot say for better or for worse)
I always forget how expensive videogames are, especially console games. I feel like I spend way too much on games, despite that I only buy around 1 - 2 games per year
...In-context I know this advice was meant to be encouraging but I still worry about it pretty constantly. I love both disciplines but I feel I really found my niche in rigging, but I was made to feel like I was aiming lower than my true potential.
Anyway, this is a brand new account, but you know who it is. It's going to be slightly more normal here, but I'm still me & more of the same. You can keep calling me Mojo or that yoinky sploinky or whatever names you like but only if they sound silly
I totally figured out why I get sick of some songs and why I can also listen to other songs on loop for months. It's the lyrics. Once I memorize them by heart, It's over. So now, I try to avoid memorizing lyrics, so the song stays a lil mysterious, and it works fantastic that way
Advice I learned years ago that I use daily is "do it better, or do it different." It was useful for me when I compared myself too much to other artists. Sometimes you cant do a thing "better" than someone else, but you CAN do it in your own unique way to create a new experience
I watched a (bad) YT review of Velma months ago. On that night, I had been working for ~12HR straight, & I remember I paused the review to take a nap at 4AM, & I had a REALLY vivid nightmare about the show. That was a baaad low point but the absurdity of it all makes me laugh now
For that reason I think each unique Deep Cut member becomes 500x more interesting and appealing when they're on their own, like their boss battles in the story mode. In contrast, Callie / Marie or Marina / Peal become less engaging as characters when they're not with eachother.
I'm not sure if I only want to post hellboy, or if I want to start posting other silly stuff too, so I apologize if this account seems all over the place in the near future
For the record I do not agree with them. But I don't have much industry experience to refute much of what they said. So for the time being, I'll continue to be haunted by this.
It's going good but I have a couple things to work on. I can't quite get the wiggles to look super faithful, & the framerate is wrong. I noticed Baman Piderman episodes are animated alternating on 1s and 2's. Was most likely intentional, it's consistent, but I wonder why?
I agree Deep Cut is the least charismatic idol group but I think that's an unfortunate result of a unique design choice, vs. incompetence. DC is unlike-minded people doing their own things, together. OTH and SS are like-minded people doing the same things together.
I'm still thinking about when ROTTMNT was announced / released forever ago and the response was overwhelmingly negative. I even remember having an argument with a friend over it. But now it's an incredibly beloved show for a generation. & history seems to be repeating itself
I agree it's map / mode dependent. Vsploosh is way better on Zones but Neo Sploosh is far superior in RM & CB. I would argue Sploosh is better at Carbon's job, being a way stronger main weapon while dying less and playing less selfishly, but carbon buffs have made it way better
