Build your own TERRA. Simply download the open-source software, 3D print the CAD files, assemble the necessary hardware components and start wandering.
Inspired by synesthesia theory, the tool translates audio metrics such as pitch, key, notes, rhythm and BPM into Stable Diffusion prompts describing color, shapes and movements of the imagery.
Synesthesia is a neurological condition in which information meant to stimulate one of the senses stimulates several. Listening to music, for instance, can involuntarily evoke an experience of color, shape, and movement.

Our name is an homage to the apparatus that translates analogue signals into digital code and vice versa.
Ultimately, this is the premise of Modem — negotiating the tension between physical and digital environments.
Amid the constant distractions of our phones, TERRA offers a different path. The interface is minimal, featuring only a tranquil compass needle and gentle haptic feedback.

We are honoured to be featured in Creative Review's 'The Leaders Issue', bringing together conversations with those who are taking the world of design in new and unexpected directions.
We partnered with industrial design studio
@MapProjectO
to develop Smart Aid Kit: a vision for universal healthcare, driven by generative AI technology.
We are honored that our ongoing series of research papers has been nominated for a Dutch Design Award.
Our papers are dedicated to studying the impact of digitalization on our lives. All the research and insights are made freely available to the public to spark a debate.
In places where the alternative is no healthcare at all, Smart Aid Kit could be a vital lifeline, eliminating the need to travel to doctors or hospitals in some cases, reducing both costs and time.
Together with Morgan Catalina, holistic sexuality educator, and industrial designer Maxime le Grelle, Modem explored the tension between technology and human connection.
The ophthalmoscope examines the eye's interior, detecting neurological, cardiovascular, autoimmune, and genetic disorders, as well as early diabetes. To get examined, users simply gaze into the camera.
As an office for design and innovation, Modem partners with forward-thinking companies and institutions to turn disruptive technologies into opportunities for growth. Working at the intersection of physical and digital, we are committed to creating experiences for a new world.
The spirometer assesses lung volume, microbiome, nutrition, and metabolic data for potential cancer indicators. Users simply exhale through the mouthpiece for comprehensive analysis.
With Pablo Castillo Luna, architect at Harvard GSD, The Augmented City presents a manifesto envisioning the role of architecture and urbanism in this brave new world of Augmented Reality.
