Is it just me or does planning for remote lessons take triple the time? Usually I can plan 85% of lessons for the week on the weekend, making a few minor tweaks in the week. Just lately, I'm lucky if I can plan 24 hours in advance. Everything is taking SO much longer 😩

This 'can we be normal for Christmas' narrative is frustrating me atm. I completely understand the sentiment but there were no special plans for those that celebrate Eid or Diwali. Millions of people have spent those festivals away from family. Why should xmas be any different?

Prepared a little well-being box for the department. Filled with emergency lunches, hot drinks, snacks and remedies for feeling a little under the weather. I plan to restock it each half term. It's not a lot but every little helps 😊

This was what Y10 came up with yesterday, prior to reading the whole poem - I only gave them a crunched version.

If they're doing a good job, why does anybody care? Teaching doesn't have to be about who is in school the longest or who works the most hrs. Surely this HT models a good work/life balance? Some teachers need to remember we all have and are entitled to lives outside of education.

Being a new HOD is really tough sometimes. I love the role but it's so difficult to know if I am getting things right. Are my team happy? Am I supporting them/developing them enough? Is the curriculum right? Have I sequenced it right? Only time will tell I guess!

Most rewarding part of today was seeing a student crying (happy tears) when she saw her two grade 4s. She was terrified of not passing and worked SO hard this last year. She threw her arms around me and said 'thank you'. Really, it was all down to her!

I'm really upset by the Child Q story. Really upset that her school failed her, more so than the police. There is SO much more work to do, in schools, WITH STAFF, regarding race. But, for now, all I can say is I hope that poor girl is receiving the support she deserves/needs.

The best two sets of GCSE results I have ever had have come from classes that I had taught throughout their entire GCSE course. The 1 class I had from Y8 through to 11.
It's something I try to uphold across my department, where right and appropriate for both staff and pupils.
As international research suggests teaching the same class for more than a year has a positive effect on attainment, attendance and behaviour,

I struggle with this rule hugely. I'm not one for bending rules but this is one I will bend if I think it's necessary. It's not ideal for us as adult women, in schools, either. I dread that time of the month at work for the very reason of having limited time to go to the loo.
