The one up your nose is a nasogastric feeding tube (multicoloured bag behind you), the other ones are part of a central line which is in the side of your neck - goes into a large central vein to give fluids and meds (which sometimes can't be given via smaller veins). Thank you 😔

Today's big step forward is a coffee in Coleraine town. Now, again, this may not seem a big thing, but when you have had a "bit of an issue" walking due to not being able to breathe, this is a pretty big milestone as it is a pedestrianised town

a wee (slow) dander from the car park to the jetty and back again at Crom Castle. Not far for many, but further than I have walked since August 2023. Oxygen levels 76% on 6lpm -no problem 🫣🫣😂😂 the fresh air is fab 🤩

What a difference a year makes. This night last year I was lying in hospital (had been teaching ILS in the morning) contemplating what the future might look like. I was sure I was going to die within the year, my friend had me on the transplant list 🫣

So, after a worrying couple of weeks, our boy has been discharged by Doggy Dr Mark. He has survived a cardiac tamponade, acute heart failure and ascities. We are blessed by the care he received at our vets - prompt pericardial tap yielded 60mls blood.

Merry Christmas everyone. My second Christmas without mum, first without dad and first without both of them. As an only child, I am acutely aware of the loneliness of the situation. Thankfully I have a fantastic husband, wider family circle and good friends who support me. 🤗

30 years ago today, I started my nursing career at the RVH in Belfast. It's been a fantastic journey, met patients I have never forgotten, colleagues from around the world. Challenges, of course, but live, learn and be stronger. Here's to the next chapter back in NI (soon)

Meet our robin, "Ree". My mum was known as auntie Ree to all my cousins and their kids. Mum always believed robins were a sign of loved ones who had passed, coming to visit. It seemed fitting to have a felt robin made to join us this Christmas. Love you forever, mum 💔😔

I absolutely love this. For years I was made to feel my role as a nurse academic was less important than clinical roles. We all make an impact and this is what's great about nursing - the variety of career paths and we are one nursing family all putting patients first 😍👍
